Am I right in thinking these are for sissy squats? Has anyone ever done them..... I can see it not ending well if I try them tbh

Yeah, I've seen a legit bodybuilder use it in what looked to be some high rep 'finisher'.

They look one of those things that looks handy enough when you watch a video and think sure I'll give that a go, but then you end up falling flat on your face or barely getting through the first few inches of it before you get stuck because it is a LOT harder than it looks

Hey guys - didn't want to start a new thread but have a question re: dry needling.

I've been seeing a PT for 6 weeks now, and I'm doing weights pretty much for the first time in my life so I'm very much a beginner. A problem I've always known I've had, and that he picked up on pretty much straight away, is that my left (weaker) shoulder is very tight and doesn't have as much mobility as my right (stronger) shoulder. It's hard to describe. I never really took care of my posture for years - slouching while walking/relaxing, and not sitting correctly in a deskjob. So it's like my shoulders natural position is hunched forward, moreso my left shoulder (though this may be because my right shoulder is stronger and I'm able to overcome the problem easier when exercising). I probably haven't done a great job of describing it.

Anyway, I'm doing a lot of stretches and rotation exercises, but my left shoulder still impacts my workouts and I find it very hard to maintain form on some exercises, even on light weights when I'm trying to solely focus on form to begin with.

I'm obviously going to keep at the stretches and exercises, but would it be worth looking into dry needling? Anyone have any experience of it, and would it be recommended for what I've described above?

I've had dry needling done and it worked for me but it was suggested by the physio I went to for an issue that they addressed with some manual therapy, a prescribed suite of exercises and then some dry needling.

Tl;dr go to a physio and get some advice on what will alleviate the problem as well as what will rectify it insofar as it can be.

To echo this - go to a physio and they'll decide if you need dry needling. Some physios love it because it saves them time and it's effective.

I've had it done a number of times and I have to say, last time I had it on my hamstring it was brilliant. Could barely walk 5minutes afterwards, went home, iced it, elevated it and the following day I felt much better.

Ah jaysus. The hockey. Not able for it. World. Cup. Final.

Seriously though, what a high performance mindset that team must have in spite of their amateur status, incredible.

The deadspin article above pretty much explains it from the Powerliftingwomen IG account baiting him and then 'outing' him.

Instagram account accuses prominent powerlifting coach based in Ireland of being racist on the basis of a logo on his gyms discontinued t-shirt line and a Confederate flag hanging up in the background.

There has already been numerous things pointed out to the Instagram account owner that contradict their claims, such as the gym being as racially and ethnically diverse as you can get. And the powerlifting organisation he is involved in never having a single complaint made in regards to it's inclusivity.

That's what I get from it anyway.

Wasn't it was more his actual comments about Nazis? And didn't comment on the instagram page first, rather than being baited.
It's all a little hard to follow with random screenshots and a lack of any context.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,586 ✭✭✭✭Mr. CooL ICE

Yes it is hard to follow. I've never spoken to the coach myself so don't know the whole story.

Aa far as I can tell, the comments came second. He was targeted initially over the flag and the logo. It looks like he was happy to get in a long, in depth debate over German history whereas PowerliftingWomen (the Instagram account) wanted basic sound bites.

PowerliftingWomen is in the process of contacting foreign clients, past and present, trying to find someone to speak out and nobody has done so yet. A post on the PowerliftingWomen page even claimed that the gym had kicked out an Egyptian girl over being Muslim and sending her legal letters when she spoke out. There are conversation screenshots from both sides that show that this was all made up.

There's a lot of mud being thrown in the coach's direction and none of it is sticking.

    I don't think so.
According to this article, it started with this post. Which was a reference to Powerlifters with nazi "ink". Jay responded with "What's a nazi?"

    Which led to the below;

I'm not suggesting that this person is in the right btw. She is clearly an internet crusader, and flinging some ****.
I'm just pointing out defending nazi/national socialism/swatika tattoos on the page of a person like that is never going to work out well for you.

    Gotcha. Makes more sense now.

I had a look at that post and can't find the reply by the coach in question, so I'm missing some context. Probably deleted? I dunno, I'm not that familiar with Instagram. But is that all he posted?

But looking at some other replies and it's all very silly. Anybody who doesn't outright agree with PowerliftingWomen gets called a nazi. They are throwing the word around so much that the word has lost its meaning. I don't know what the coach meant, but he could have even been checking if PowerliftingWomen knew what the word meant.

I think the issue is more about what he said about the Nazis. He's quite wrong about a lot of it but it's not really worth debating. I'd say the guy is more of a misguided history fan than anything sinister. I originally posted because it seems like powerlifting is never in the news unless it's rapey coaches or nazis

    Agreed.

Lemmy from Motorhead was renowned for collecting Nazi memorabilia and always wore an iron cross pendant. He said something like "I only collect the stuff. I didn't create the ideas". But to anybody from the outside looking in, it would be hard to explain.

Funny how people will rail at that stuff but they're okay with buying a bit of the Berlin Wall in the gift shop...

But I'm in /r/im14andthisisdeep territory here and way off topic

Did he wear an Iron cross or actual Nazi symbols? I think there’s a big difference between wearing German military regalia and Nazi symbols. A lot of he German military symbols pre date the Nazis and plenty are still used today, like the Luftwaffe insignia and the Iron Cross.

The Germans always that the best uniforms. Hugo Boss designed the WW2 ones. I completely understand why people collect them.

    they/them/theirs

Well the Swastika also predates the Nazis and it's used as a nazi symbol. But kinda been forced into meaning only only that symbol.

But you're right, the Iron Cross, has kinda a broader use over the years. Bikers, surfers, Motorhead.

And I just read about this one. Apparently HHH has used it as his logo for years. Ballsy, considering HH has long be a neo-nazi symbol

Don't think he wore any nazi stuff; just collected them.

If anybody has ever seen a guy around Dublin with a shaved head and head/face covered in tattoos, including many forms of swastikas, this guy isn't a nazi. Aside from having played in a few punk and metal bands over the years (most recently, Coldwar), he's part of a movement which is aiming to reclaim the swastika and reestablish its true meaning. Bit of a mad way to go about it, but judge book cover etc

Yes, but that's not a nazi symbol; it's a german military symbol. He also wore a german military hat from time to time.

Anyway, one of my cats is called Lemmy. No reason other than I thought it would be a great cat name. Last week, I had to bring him to the vets because he had a lump in his tail. While the vet was doing her thing, I was holding him down. I had my hand under his chest but was bent over and had my shoulder to his back and using my bodyweight to pin him in place. Despite this, he still managed to lift up and shake me off. If he was human, I reckon his bench would be amazing.
