No that’s the belt I have myself. Jujis belt was closed with a ratchet. Same kinda mechanism you’d see with ratchet belts etc.

Also a good watch because Stefi Cohen is freakishly strong.

Caught some of it on Instagram stories. Some top drawer spotting catching missed squats north of 360kg.

Barry Piggot hit a 322.5kg squat. Didn't catch much more than that.

Barry won the men's with a 322.5kg squat, 230kg bench and 310kg Deadlift for a 524 wilks. Nero pulled for the win (524 6 wilks) but couldn't get it off the ground.
Didn't catch who won the women's comp unfortunately (yet, will watch later)

All the videos are up on Abs Powerliftings Facebook page if anyone is interested.

Is the 230 a Bench WR?

Not an official one. It wasn't an IPF comp and I think it would have to be IPF nationals for it to be official

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Deano7788

It would actually have to be at an international level comp, so Euros, Arnold, Worlds essentially. Even at nationals it would be unofficial. It’s to do with the level of referees used at each.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,820 ✭✭✭✭Dtp1979

Any word why there was no Clarence?

    Exactemundo.

Pleading 'brain fart'. This is why Barry's 215 (missed) bench at the nationals would have been an unofficial record.

I'll go get my Dime bar...

It was one of the most impressive performances ever in Ireland by Barry today. Textbook lifting 9/9 and just
Lifted within himself to build the total .. to have Nero needing a Hail Mary deadlift to win was awesome.

No Clarance .. no idea why

Lina O’Sullivan won the ladies comp.

    Great show ... unreal lifting

Goes to show the vagaries of powerlifting and getting everything to come together on the day.

Eamon Harford as an example cos I think you train with/near him...he wouldn't have been expected to miss 362.5 at the end.

I was buzzing watching the DLs earlier and I not even there!

Eamonn didn’t have a good day ... deads just didn’t happen for him ... he is a 370+ puller any day of the week.

Jake Brennan had a nightmare on the squats.

Bronagh McPeake hitting a 500 wilks was another awesome achievement

Some days you're the statue, some days you're the pigeon.

Was class how EH stopped and applauded everyone after 3rd DL.

    Some day!!

Best of luck tomorrow, by the way.

Cheers ... it’s a comp where I’m going to take a leaf out of Killian’s playbook and just enjoy it and the weights will move if they want to !!

Eamonn might look like a big monster .. but he is just a big friendly giant ... real gentleman

I've found, over the years, that the nicest/soundest people training around me are the people I thought I'd be most daunted by.

    Enjoy the day!!
