Could be the most stupid question I've asked but:

We have ESTAs that expire mid August and will travel to and from the us in June.

Are they valid for travel or like a passport in that you need x number of months left on it?

    Thanks in advance.

I think as long as it's valid on the day you enter the us your fine

    From Here

    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/application.html?execution=e2s1

HOW LONG IS MY ESTA VALID FOR?

Unless revoked, travel authorizations are valid for two years from the date of authorization, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. The Authorization Approved screen displays your travel authorization expiration date.

Your ESTA authorization is generally valid for multiple trips over a period of two years (starting the date that you are approved) or until your passport expires, whichever comes first*. This means that as long as you received an ESTA authorization to travel, you do not have to reapply during the validity period.

If your ESTA expires while in the U.S. it will not affect your departure.

Note: Is it important to PRINT a copy of the document for your records. The printout is not required upon arrival into the United States, as the officers have the information electronically.

Receiving ESTA authorization does not mean you may stay in the U.S. for two years. It only allows you to travel to the U.S. under the terms of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which only allows you to stay in the U.S. for 90 days or less. If you plan to stay for longer than 90 days, you must obtain a visa at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

*If you obtain a new passport or change your name, gender or country of citizenship, you will be required to apply for a new travel authorization. This is also required if one of your answers to any of the VWP eligibility questions changes. The associated fee of US $14 will be charged for each new application submitted.

Note: While CBP recommends that you apply for ESTA at least 72 hours before travel, you may apply anytime prior to boarding. In most cases, a response is received within seconds of submitting an application.

Thanks, with the above mine is valid even if it expired whilst I was over there. :D

Saves me the ESTA payment again anyway.

There is no requirement by the US that there is any set number of months remaining on your passport, it just needs to be valid during the entire length of your stay there.

Even if there's less than 90 days left on your passport, in a lot of cases they will stamp you with a 90 day travel permit at immigration but you'd still need to leave before the passport expires to avoid any complications when departing.

The ESTA, as stated above, only needs to be current on the day you present yourself at a point of entry. Once you enter the US, the 90 day travel permit stamp in your passport is what matters, the ESTA is irrelevant.
