    Hi all

House hunter here and currently interested in moving to Kildare.
We are interested in the Boycetown development in Kilcock mainly because the houses look fab. But we are unfamiliar with the area.

Are there decent transport links to Dublin? I understand there is a commuter train there do Im hoping that is pretty frequent.

In terms of amenities, we're really looking for a nice community with good schools. Ideally a small town feel with things to do nearby. Would Kilcock represent this? Or should we look more so at bigger towns like Celbridge, Naas or Maynooth

Any and all advice is welcome

Kilcock would fit that bill anyway, you have Maynooth on your doorstep.

Kilcock is being added to the short hop zone from June 2017 which will bring down the price of a train ticket to Dublin which is a big boost as prices were unreasonable.

There's also a Bus Eireann to Dublin which takes around 45 minutes.

Have a look at Sallins as well it also has a train station, is a small village but is very close to Naas.

I lived in Kilcock a couple years ago but am still there every week at some point since moved to Enfield.

Those Boycetown houses are gorgeous alright! I think the town ticks all your boxes and it seems to have improvements each year. There's been a good bit of work done to the roads (they were horrific), the new Lidl, walkway along the canal done, there's a new health centre type thing going up and I think the playground will either get moved or re-done.

Schools seem to be good. I know people with kids in the secondary and in the gaelscoil primary and they are happy with it.

Trains as previous poster mentioned, are getting there. If you are driving to Dublin and the M4 is looking ropey on Google Maps, then there is a great back road up to the M3 so you can still access the M50.

Donadea Forest Park is fantastic and warrants the annual membership Coillte card (40 euro).

Easy access to Maynooth & Celbridge for anything else needed.

One of the only drawbacks is there is not much happening there at night. Rye River started doing proper evening meals on weekend nights and their food is fantastic. There's pubs, but that's about it.

The St Patricks Day Parade & subsequent rubber duck race in the canal is great!

Are you talking about the R125? That's an awful road, twisty, narrow and dangerous.

New development has begun on the Maynooth side. It will stretch from field beside Ford garage around to Supervalu road. They've started doing the roadworks from that end. Major flood planning to go into it. Sean Reilly of Maple 10 fame doing it. You'll find the plans on Meath CoCo online planning from April 2015. Yes, Meath. GarraReilly or something similar the name.

I see potential in Kilcock as a really nice village if they just plan it right and don't build.

    Planning application (maybe): http://www.eplanning.ie/MeathCC/AppFileRefDetails/RA161443/0

Not yet granted - One lapsed then new one were introduced in 2015 but were withdrawn (although they already started some works - I thnk they had to back out).
It seems there are some more from 2015 that were appealed.

The development for 150 was granted at an bord pleanala. The 180 development has been resubmitted.

Both were rejected/ withdrawn under a different name in 2014/5 prior to the other one.

Developer appears to be getting on with the road and relief works for first development and being ready to go with other.

Think very carefully before moving anywhere just for an amazing house. Visit Kilcock, and the other areas you have mentioned to get a feel for them.

Kilcock-Maynooth versus Sallins-Naas might end up being your choices and if commuting is a priority, I think the Sallins line has a more frequent service.

It's also important to consider which railway line gets you nearest your place of work.
The Maynooth line runs to Connolly while the Sallins line terminates in Heuston, although the opening of the Park Tunnel will allow trains to run through to Connolly.

The tunnel is already open to morning and evening trains.

I agree though, look at the area before the house. Does it have all the facilities you require, or will you have to go somewhere else?

Also, if you plan on socialising in Dublin ever again there are no Nitelinks and a taxi will cost you probably €55 or €60.

I think the Nightrider still operates: http://www.buseireann.ie/timetables/1466431338-126N.pdf

Inbound leg is something Nitelinks don't even have.

I was more thinking about Kilcock. If I was looking there I'd seriously consider a smaller house in Maynooth, Leixlip or at a push Celbridge instead, just based on transport options alone.

Ideally I'd have a Georgian house overlooking the sea in Blackrock :)

I read from the post on the train lines and not the rest of the thread :o

Kilcock's Nightrider died years ago. BÉ are in no state to restart it.

hi just spotted this when I was looking for info on trains myself. I just wanted to let you know that the Sallins station has trains now that go to Connolly and Grand Canal Dock in morn/evening through the Phoenix Park tunnel. It opened in November 2016. Best of luck with your search and move :-)
