Wasn't sure where to put this, but this seems like a reasonable thread. A1 coaching are giving 1 free month away to 10 people. It requires a survey to be completed. No affiliation, (I think the main question is silly) but came up on my feed

I started to complete that survey but the moment they inquire about your salary its a WTF moment... :D as in why the f'#k they need to know that sort of stuff!

There may be a legitimate reason, if so someone enlighten me please!

Maybe they're planning an A1 cryptocurrency and are looking for saps investors.

I imagine they are trying to figure out the average wage of a middle aged dentist, seeing as they are their target market apparently .

They are a coaching company, in my view it would be absolutely none of their business.
If you’re a client and pay your bill then that should be all the info they need .

Jeez, ye're all hyper sensitive. I filled it out and got a free months coaching. Interesting to see what it involves.

    Congratulations.
I wonder will it involve high intensity, low volume, dont-believe-all- that-old-fashioned- ould -stuff training programmes that they specialise in?
If you are time-crunched but have plenty money then these types of training programmes are popular, perhaps suitable. I can't afford them myself being honest about it. Good coaching is worth the money all the same

The cost invloved for coaching is expensive for what rewards are there for the ordinary lad, A3/A4 level. TrainerRoad with some solid Internet research for €10 per month would offer alot that such a rider would need.

Coaching in a limited capacity can be beneficial for some people, myself included. I have set out several programs, diets etc. over the year with some improvements but they always slipped by the way side.

When your paying for a service, one that is thought and planned out for you, I for one would be more likely to stick to it. Life is busy for some and several studies have shown when a choice is made easier, you are more likely to do it. In this case, you don't need to think about what to do, you just have to do it.

Personally I wouldn't take coaching tips whose tips and training advice is constantly found to be incorrect and only seems to have a basic understanding of the words he uses, reminds me of Matthew Syed, speaking fast using relevant words, he tries to convince you he knows what he is on about, whereas anyone with a background in the area would point out several key flaws with everything he says, every time he opens his mouth.

Great cyclists don't always make great coaches.

Ive been using a coach for 2 years now, he has found and focused on y weaknesses, at 41, I am in the best shape of my life. I was racing for 10 years before that, I had moved from cat 5 to cat 3 in America and had points towards 2. I started back as a 4 here and am now a 2 with points.

like @cramcycle said, having a coach takes the guesswork out of it, I get my plan, I do it, that's it, he watches my power and recovery etc on training peaks, and adjusts accordingly. I think that the progression is, a powermeter is essential for training and then the next step is a coach. But, yes, it can be expensive and time consuming, but its a lot less time consuming than training on your own and/or without a power meter.

I was coached by A1 last year and it helped me immensely... I'm not sure where all this hate for them comes from?

Anthony Walsh took the p1ss out of cycling forum about 18months ago; some lads are still upset...

I think he was even banned around that time

Even a average trainer would help some people as it makes them accountable and helps to look critically at your training/performance/recovery.

Ah, ok! For those who may not be aware, there's a team of coaches. I was paired with a successful (in his time) road and track rider, who had already been a coach for many years, with considerable international success and he was very good. It wasn't perfect, maybe, but little is in these fields. I've been coached previously, but this was on a whole different level.

Probably won't change a lot of people's minds about A1, but I think the guys are ok.

My dislike is actually of Anto himself, rather than A1 so apologies about that. I have no reason to believe the other coaches are not good.

I have no issue with him taking the piss out of the cycling forum, it is an online forum, it would be worrying if people didn't take the piss out of it now and again. He was posting himself and trying to advertise to members but its funny how members went from potential clients to keyboard warriors when he could no longer target them directly.

It will change my mind on A1 but not on Anto. Between some of the ridiculous "I read one article in mens health and now have the secret to lowering weight and gaining power" style coaching, without even understanding the basics behind it, I heard this personally but was also reiterated to me by people who know far more about coaching and the science behind it than I do. Followed by his online comments (since removed) about a form of payment from someone who was at his talk, I am sure he remembers them. To his rubbish last year, which I took as a personal slight, on a league I help organise. I had went and got views from national and provincial coaches, talked to people involved in youth development for years, offered to talk to those who had an issue with some of the choices we made so we could explain the rationale, even talked to the coach of the rider involved, who we agreed to follow in his recommendations for said rider. Instead Anto and one disgruntled shop owner who hadn't been to a race in years decided to start a pretty abusive facebook thread all for a few likes on his youtube channel. Whether my actions were right or wrong, considering the specifics of that rider and the fact that myself and the other organisers of the league had offered to meet and talk to those who were unhappy, which was not even responded to, I then got a load of abuse after his youtube video from a load of people who had no idea of the situation or what was being done and what had being looked into behind the scenes. So yeah, I don't like the guy and have no respect for him, it colours my view of him and that view is unlikely to change.

It should however not affect those who work in A1 so I will go back through my posts to change them, my dislike is of him personally, I won't try to hide that. Comically I doubt he has given it a second thought so I probably do look like some sad middle aged internet warrior to him.

It is just him I have no time for and apologies that I tarred other coaches there with the same brush.

39 hardly lads in the A4 ran by Newcastle West today.

Awful day for racing by all accounts.

Seems like the Hanlon is the only Leinster race in the CI calendar this weekend (Sunday). Does anyone know if some of the races cancelled over the last couple of weekends were rescheduled to take place on Saturday?

Talking of pre paid racing has anyone tried to get a refund yet for a cancelled race. I emailed a club running a race about it and they told me I would have to contact CL for a refund but no word from them so far.

I had signed up for the Mick Lally ( Dublin Wheelers Open race ) . This got cancelled and refund was issued last week . So approx 2 weeks for refund .

Two lads from our club started the A3 and one the A1/2. None finished. One of the A3 guys talked about been dropped by the "bunch" but I got the impression the "bunch" was about 10 riders (mostly juniors) and the rest of the field was scattered behind

Not much better, stupid decisions coupled with a level of unfitness I have not experienced for years meant I was already behind the bunch when you crashed. The ambulance on the road before you crashed seperated me out further and I never got back on. You were standing when I passed and I knew the follow car was not far behind so I ploughed on in vein. By the time I turned into the headwind I had lost the will to push on. Quite a humiliating day but I have been eating healthier since as I couldn't face such another humiliating showing again.

Got mine earlier this week, without asking.

Did a 4 x 10 threshold session earlier on the turbo with a rough calculation after it my ftp is pretty bang on where it was pre Feb 4th when I crashed.

I'm very pleased with that and heading back on the road Sat morning for a steady Z2-Z3 spin with a Sportive for April 15th then a likely date for Frank O Rourke race May 6th as my first outing as an A3.

Feels good to have some positivity back but still a long road ahead for full recovery of the shoulder.

Id say youre chuffed , thatll put you in a good mindset to start your " on the road " training .
You picked a testing auld race to start off with .

I raced it as an A4 and liked it till weather beat me, I have vague memories of a couple of digs that will hurt but all going to plan its a starting point.

Have heard about this crash, sorry to hear about the damage, I hope nobody got physically hurt.

Did A4 as well, I don't remember being so cold waiting for the start, couldn't stop violent shivering!

On the other hand, managed to stay with the front group till the end, but didn't score.
