Peugeot 307 - anti theft fault

    Howdy folks,

I tried to start my car this evening and it just kept turning over. The warning message on the dash said "Electrical Anti Theft Fault" or something along those lines, which would point to the immobiliser I would imagine?

The key works fine, the remote central locking is working so I don't think its a problem with my battery. No spare either which is a PITA

What are my options here? Do I just have to call a car locksmith and get a new key programmed? Is there a way of salvaging the key I have? Also, Im in a rural town - is this something that your bog standard auto-electric can do or am I resigned to having to having to call out a dealer or specialist locksmith?

You most likely have a broken aerial on the key. Its a component with a load of very thin copper wire wrapped around it. They can give problems on those keys. Repairable. An auto locksmith could try and read the key to diagnose the problem and then you would know for sure if its the key, or the car.

I had forgotten about this thread but as it happens that wasn't it. Had the key tested and it was fine. Had my mechanic look at it who had it for a few days and narrowed it down to a crank sensor which got it going again. It got it going for two days then the same started happening again.

I did some extensive googling before bringing it to the main dealer and it turns out the problem was with the engine oil level. The mechanic had mentioned that there was some part of the engine which was blowing out oil that would have to be looked at, but thought it was unrelated to the problem I was having. Turns out that when the car would attempt to start, the engine would cut out for safety reasons as the oil level was to low - not sure why the fault didn't say that tbh, peugeot eh?
