Question if we get to the Europa league final and face the likes of Roma who will be already qualified for the CL next season. Do you utd get the CL spot even if we lose?

No it only goes to the winner from what I know.

Some people making an absolute show of themselves trying to downplay the stamp on Zlatan.

When will we know zlatans punishment

Goes to the winner and the next placed team in the winners league qualifies (assuming the winner has qualified already via the league)

Dont think so.. think the new rules is only if the team that wins it is outside the top 4 that the league gets an extra team.. so if they are in the top 4 only 4 qualify from that league

So if we finish 4th and Liverpool 5th and we win the Europa. Liverpool won't get an extra spot

Thats what I thought.. Didn't the ref call him. And rooney over to talk to him after the elbow?

Yeap. And my understanding is that once the ref addresses the issue on the pitch, thats the end of it. Now, Ming's stop wasn't addressed, so could yield a punishment.

Exactly thats the way I understood the rules too. Maybe the ref warned ibra about something else when he called him over could of been something like the response to been pushed or getting in the refs face.

I genuinely don't think the team is setup properly for pogba he is trying to do too much of his normal game from deeper in midfield and I think Jose knows this too and it will be fixed over the summer.

I think his worst performances both Pool games for example have come when he was furthest forward of the midfield three.

They'd be a team short then wouldn't they? For the play off round the EL champion and 4th place would be the same team in your scenario?

Can we accommodate both him and Grizeman in the one team if he comes.
Didn't France struggle in the euro's to do this.
Could it mean the end of martial or Rashford if Grizeman comes in and Ibra stays another sesasons.?
Really big transfer window coming up and I think the middle of the park and centre half should be our priority.

Do people think we will still get top 4?

If we're 6 points off top 4 at this stage I'd still say we have a slim chance. Put it this way if we we're 6 points of Chelsea, there would no one saying it's over.

Where is the 6 points coming from? Win our game in hand we go joint 4th. ARSENAL then win and they go 4th leaving us 1 point behind.

The big problem is that we are going to drop further points, its what we have done all season and its going to continue happening. Add that to a tough run in and our chances of overhauling other teams starts to look pretty bleak.

I said it before the game, we absolutely could not afford to drop points yesterday, but thats exactly what we did and its really going to hurt us come the end of the season. As an aside, the one or two people who seemed to think we shouldn't be too annoyed by yesterdays result are the ones that have missed the trick, if ever we should be annoyed by a result it was yesterday, it was far more significant than nearly any game we have left this season.

Will we get top four? Maybe, with such fine margins between all the teams its certainly possible. But I think our team has a soft centre and will drop more points and there is a very high chance we finish 5/6th.

Don't think we'd sell to an English club when there's other options. I reckon he'll only go to a club he's guaranteed success as well eg PSG, Juve, Munich

I still think we have a better chance winning the EL. We clearly have become a difficult team to beat which is a big plus outside of the league.

I think to get top 4 we will have to out perform our rivals in the head to head games and I'm not overly confident we can do that. It's not impossible but I'd say the odds are slightly against us.

We're just not running on all cylinders at the moment and we haven't been all season. Jose still needs time to put his mark on the squad but that's not going to help us this season.

This bit in the article, I'd hardly call it "overstepping", if anything it's a sign of leadership in a team that lacks leaders.
While his winning mentality and hunger to play has never been questioned and is admired by many people at Arsenal, there is a fear that he is overstepping the mark.

If we were six points off Chelsea, we'd need one team to slip up. Currently we need two teams to start dropping points for any chance at 4th.

    Much different.

If true that could be great news for utd to get a CL spot. Their best player rebelling against his team.

    This is good.

The rebellion won't last but it's not an issue anyway. Arsenal won't make top 4

You're always going drop stupid points over the season, but we have done enough for 2 full seasons already.

I think Top 4 is out of reach now. We still got to go to City, Arsenal and Spurs, Chelsea at home too.

We had to win games like yesterday. Im still positive about short term future, but this season has been most frustrating season since 97/98 for me.

On Saturday United had 20 attempts at goal to Bournemouth’s three. Over those five draws with the lesser lights, they have mustered 115 efforts to their various opponents’ 29 but the aggregate score stands at 3-3. The numbers suggest United are a creative team but not a clinical one. It explains why they are yet to reach 40 league goals, whereas the top five have recorded half-centuries.

It's odd that Zlatan has just one goal in those five draws,we'd expect him to fill his boots against the likes of Bournemouth.
Since Fergie retired we have lost the flat track bully status we built up where lesser teams were beaten before they even took to the pitch and their main aim was to simply keep the score down.

I get what he is saying in a roundabout way.

The teams above us slipping up aint my worry it's our ability to take advantage that worries me. We are getting near the time when we are going to be overload with games and we have not taken advantage of a major chance the weekend it's just making things so hard. We are going to need a big run of form now till end of season.

Id love United to put in a bid for Sanchez and see if we can get him although I wouldn't hold my breath. I reckon City might be interested or even Chelsea if Diego Costa fecks off. Basically I doubt we will have a chance if he doesn't specifically want to come to us.

Griezmann is in our sights so I doubt Sanchez will be on our radar unless Griezmann turns us down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,229 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Sanchez will probably go to PSG. If Arsenal sell to a PL team, they may as well pack it in.

I dont think he would want to stay in England he seems to have a lot of respect for Arsenal id say he is nailed on to go abroad back to Italy id say with juve

Sanchez, Greizman, Kane, Dier wouldnt be a bad summer I guess :D

I wonder though if Zlatan situation is about him wanting a shot at winning the champions league so depending on us getting top 4 or we have a striker lined up and he wont stay to play second fiddle

More goals for Griezmann. That's 4 seasons in a row now with 20+ goals per season.

Lesser teams are fitter and more tactically disciplined these days and all have a bit of quality in them. As such, their park the bus tactics aren't as affected by fatigue as they would have been 10 years ago and the counter attack can bring the odd reward.

Our biggest problem is either not getting a goal earlier, emboldening them, or not putting them to the sword earlier. It's such a strange situation, our inability to finish chances, it's not like we're don't have a lad who is sticking them away at a good rate.

Expand and say not enough contributions to the team from other players than ibra but some of that is on Jose as much as it is on the players.
For arguments sake he keeps playing mata on the right and its really annoying.
Mata has scored alot of crucial goals for utd but is ineffective on the right IMO
    I'd wish he'd play him #10
As for Martial who tends to get away with criticism. He was awful on Saturday and needs to get his finger out of his arse and contribute more in the final third.

Zlatan should be taken off when he's clearly not at his best. The way Mourinho plays you can't afford to have a passenger in that position.

It's infuriating to watch him persist with it every time when it's obviously not happening for him.

It will be interesting to see how we get on without him for a few games. I expect he will be banned anyway.

Jose will always play with one solid striker up front regardless. To be fair he's given Rashford a few chances up top to lead the line. Our biggest issue is contributions outside of our main striker.
I can understand in a way if he sticks with zlatan as he's always capable of pulling something out of his magic bag regardless of how bad he's playing.
Without ibra we would have lost the league cup last week and there is an argument to be made he didn't even play that well.

When a team has ten men parked in their box, I can see why we keep Ibra on. His strength and height lets him possibly bulled the defenders. Same reason Fellaini came on instead of Herrera. I like Rashford but don't know how he'll be against parked buses.

In the last few minutes we saw Zlatan calling for the ball to be knocked in high. We had him and Fellaini in the box but kept trying to be too clever against a packed defence. On the few occasions we did knock it in we created chances. It might not be pretty but in the dying minutes of a game we need a result in it can be effective.

Yeah and if he's not playing well the whole midfield and frontline is affected. You can get away with a Martial/Mata/Mkhitaryan having an off game to an extent but not your big man that almost everything the team does is geared towards getting the ball to.

You'd think it would work more often...
We need to have another option when it's not happening for him.

Zlatan and Pogba have 183 shots between them. 15% success rate for Zlatan and 5% for Pogba.Compare that to Kane 25%,Costa 21%,Mane 22%,Alli 19%.

We are so wasteful it's criminal, Mata is our most efficient attacker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,709 ✭✭✭✭Cantona's Collars

Hazard looks like being Madrid's big Summer buy. Isco and/or James will move to make way for him.I doubt Jose will go for either if available.

I understand what you are saying and I'm delighted Zlatan is banging in the goals but it's not logical to say we would not have won the league cup without Zlatan. If he wasn't there then someone else would have played and the whole game would have been different.
