Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can't believe we are discussing a player and everyone seems to agree.

One stat on it's own can be completely misleading. Like the leading passing accuracy for most teams tends to be the CB's. That doesn't mean they are the best passers, but that they play the easiest passes.

Ara sure I know that Jay and my point was a little tongue in cheek, but pointing out someone season long stats doesnt show me if they have hit a slumb in form or not. While stats deffo have there uses (I've used em lots in the past) if someone IMO isn't playing well after having watched them no amount of stats will change my mind on that

You know I kinda liked the lad. He was limited but likeable. I'll never forget that little purple patch himself and Ando hit at the start of a season.

Totally. Stats have their uses, but you need to back them up by using your eyes too. Like Pogba has the best stats for United this season in a lot of categories but he's clearly not been playing up to scratch for a while now.

Yeh that was the season I was talking about sire they played like xavi and Iniesta it was just like watching Barcelona. Think it was 11-12 season first 6 or so games.

PS. Joke about xavi and Iniesta.

    Is Kasper now world class??

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/mar/15/kasper-schmeichel-champions-league-leicester-steven-nzonzi

Barney Roney thinks he is and that's enough for me.

I was watching Cleverly when he played a match for Watford there recently and I was amazed to see him still hiding behind opposition players.. he got the ball and passed it to the fullback and immediately ran in behind the opposition player and the fullback had no option but to hoof it forward. I remember it as I was giving out to the missus that he used to do that for United.

I wonder was it Peter or Kasper himself who asked Barney to do the puff piece to help him get a move in the Summer.

Is Kasper Schmeichel world-class? Well, If DDG left this Summer and Kasper was linked with United as his replacement, I'd be hoping we'd look further. I don't think he is.

That article has some substance though, he would be a definite and necessary improvement for the likes of Liverpool who can't really decide on who is the lesser of two evils for their current keeper. I don't think Schmeichel is world-class, but that obviously doesn't mean that he can't win a PL title or help a team to one. He'd be a good signing for a Top 6 or 8 team who are currently lacking in the position.

If DDG left I wouldn't be adverse to giving Romero a season.

Id love Schmeichel or butland if he recovers properly.

Cleverley is a championship standard midfielder and it amazed me how he got nearly three seasons of first team football for us, two coming under ferguson.

Step 1: receive pass in promising position
Step 2: pass laterally to fullback or feign to pass the ball forward only to take a touch, turn around and pass back to the centre back
Step 3: run down a blind alley

    And repeat.

TC23 just left me very frustrated when I watched him. Very negative football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,495 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

And to think there were people that repeatedly tried to defend Cleverley and claim he was a good player and of enough quality for a big club.

People should remember the likes of Cleverley and Januazaj today when they try to argue that United have this super squad, its one thing to be a supporter but you don't need to be blind about it, you don't need to overrate plyers simply because they play for Manchester United. There are players in that squad now that just aren't good enough in the same way that Cleverley wasn't, and there are young players with talent that might never go anywhere same as Januzaj didn't, far better to recognise that fact.

Will Januzaj ever make it at Manchester United? I think the loan spell to Dortmund was a terrible idea, he was always going to rot on the bench there and that hindered his development somewhat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,597 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

Continuing with 3 at the back and 2 up top.. will be interesting anyways. Looking forward to this one I must say

    Ha, no.

Hopefully that's blind as a holding midfielder and not a left back.

I like the look of that line-up, pity I'm going to miss the game live. The team could do with a comprehensive win. With this game though, I'll take a 1-0 for qualification to the next round.

looks like Besiktas are going through. To be avoided imo.

Herrera already on a yellow before this match. Hopefully he can keep it on the straight and narrow!

    disappointing so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭kstand

Painful viewing. Very slow and laboured, no one trying to beat his man apart from Valencia. They are a threat on the counter, need to oput this to bed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

Once again our problems lie in our ability to finish off chances. Not getting through this tie would be unthinkable.

Rostov need to score so they'll have to push on a bit in the 2nd half. Let's hope they don't succeed.

Even at that, Valencia is turning back a hell of a lot and not taking on the fullback.

Very disappointing, need blind off and rashford or lingard on for some pace. Three at the back is wasted when we have so much possession and they all sit back.

Agree - he doesn't offer a lot on that flank. Needs a change.

A minor injury for him could be a blessing in disguise, he badly needs a break.

Hopefully its only something that lasts a week or two.

This could all go horribly wrong if we don't take one of our chances.

I'd take Mata off, not at the races.

That's the fear, they have had one or two chances and we could get caught on the break.

Mick is on to shore it up though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,928 ✭✭✭dubmick

    Yep, worrying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

Hints of panic starting to creep into our centre backs now and Rostov with confidence building have absolutely nothing to lose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    Who elbowed Blind?

    4 centre backs now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭kstand

No leaders on the field, its like Bouremouth a few weeks ago, very flat, no belief, very laboured
