    Do not want Rostov.

They're a nightmare at home and the travel distance for the away leg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

Besiktas and APOEL would be a longer trip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

Live stream just started on the UEFA website.

Now time for a nice video package of all 16 remaining teams. Sigh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,372 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

United should be able to beat any of the teams there - but there are plenty of games we should have been able to win this season, bloody Burnley...

Roma, BMG, Shalke and Lyon the teams to avoid I suppose.

It's clearly tongue in cheek, nobody really believes that. Just don't agree that he's definitively the best midfielder in the world according to Bangkok. :)

Hes not a midfielder in the way modric kroos or carrick or busquets are, he is a roaming midfielder that scores goals, assists, passes, tackles, dribbles and dominates opponents and imo there is no one better in the world at what he offers

Bad draw in terms of travel but we should be beating them. Lyon v Roma could be tasty.

We had some good nights in Russia.

The reality is we should win the europa league. We have been favourites from the beginning. I would send a 2nd team out to russia for first leg and keep players fresh for chelsea and 2nd leg at home.

Don't do that, they have a great home record. Full strength before the Chelsea game please. :P

That draw is not ideal travel wise at all.

But on the positive side, it means the cup game v Chelsea being on a Monday is a good thing now, gives us as much recovery time as possible.
And the rest of the draw went very well for us. All the bigger teams playing each other, meaning there is potential for a few comfortable matches in the last 8 too if we get there. Playing the winner of the all Belgian tie would be brilliant.

Oh thank god, one of those two are going out. Keep getting them confused :P

Thrilled to see the four teams I'd have worried about getting draw against each other. Thats great.

Rostov won't be easy but we should be beating them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭Crimson King

They beat Bayern 3-2 at home in CL. Although they were beaten 5-0 away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 792 ✭✭✭KombuchaMshroom

I know I'm looking way too far ahead here, but just saw that if we get to the last 8 we will again have a game against Chelsea sandwiched in between the 2 legs.

And away to Arsenal in between the 2 semi finals.
Not ideal, but what can you do.

Even though United are the holders, the EL should be a priority over the FA Cup.

    Against Rostov

    De Gea
    Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw
    Herrera, Carrick (, Pogba
    Mata, Ibrahimovic, Martial

    We can play against Chelsea:

    Romero
    Darmian, Bailly, Jones, Blind
    Herrera, Fellaini, Pogba
    Lingard, Rashford, Martial

Zlatan to come on as a sub against Chelsea and score... :p

I left out Mkhitaryan in case he is still injured. Carrick to be back...

I've been saying for ages that I'd rather win the EL than finish higher up the table in the league. At this stage with that opposition we should be balls out for that.

I personally thought top 4 would be easier than EL, but looking at whose left, I have to admit my priorities have shifted a bit. I do believe now that the EL is easier to win than to get top 4, although I'd still worry that one bad game can kill the EL as its a knockout competition. It will be interesting to see where Jose's priorities lie; if we win the EL, I couldn't care less if we come 2nd or 17th for all it matters....

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,054 ✭✭✭wanderer100

On paper the remaining teams all look straightforward and not too threatening. But I have no doubt we will run into trouble somewhere. Saying that we honestly need to be going all out for Europa AND Top 4. We're in a dangerous position right now where one or two bad games and our season is possibly over

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,755 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

    Current priorities:

    1. Win the League Cup.
    2. Get top 4 in the league.
    3. Try and win the Europa League
    4. Retain the FA Cup.

Obviously after Sunday, the current number 1 priority no longer exists so it is then.

    1. Get top 4 in the league.
    2. Try and win the Europa League
    3. Retain the FA Cup.

The EL has to be treated as seriously as the league.

When he has the most expensive squad, OF ALL TIME!!!!! at his disposal he really should be going for the world cup, the copa America AND the euros aswell.

If its a question of what I want most from the rest of this season then the answer is the Europa league trophy, without a doubt,

But I don't quite get the idea of calling it a priority, that we should prioritise it, because we can't, its a cup competition with all the luck and happenstance that comes with cup competitions. All we can do is put out our strongest team for each game and see if our higher quality holds true, but we can't focus on it in any real meaningful fashion.

Anyway, happy enough with the draw, I'll take crappy travel to a crap team ahead of an hours drive to a top team any day.

    This.

I've always wanted United to join that tiny number of teams who have won all 3 European competitions. Seeing as the Cup Winners Cup is no more, then very few teams can actually achieve this.

Our Jose is a class act recently
