    Hi

    Hopefully someone can help.

I had a 200 pound security deposit held on my card for recent stay in a hotel . They advised they released it last week but it still hasnt shown in my bank. They directed me to my bank who in turn directed me back to the hotel .

Any help welcome as it could do with it asap

    thanks

Did it ever actually leave. Sometime the funds are literally just held.

Usually takes 10 working days for a hold on a debit card to go. They were never intended to be used in such a manner; rather annoying when places do it. Is it over 10 working days yet?

    Hi

The hotel said they never took it just held it. However my available funds in my current account is 200 pound less than the total amount in the account. Basically i dont have the 200 pound to spend which i will need quite soon .

If its not gone tomorrow morning, call your bank again. Verify that it is actually a hold not a debit. If its a debit, the hotel has messed up

Its always useful to emphasise to the hotel that you want them to convert the pre-authorisation rather than release it and do a new transaction - this can cause serious issues even on a credit card. Plenty of staff won't have a clue how to do it and I believe some terminals don't know how to even.

Im pretty sure its a hold . It doesnt say on my transactions that the money was taken from my account . If its not showing tomorrow in my available funds i might pop down to my bank on my lunch . I have a wedding next week and was counting on that money being available.
