Having just lost data from a hard drive crashing, I want an online backup solution. I already use dropbox and google drive - but i have over 1TB of data - mostly raw photography files and video. I'd like a separate online backup solution that just invisibly sings everythign in the background. But also somehting that allows me access to the files if I need them.

https://www.backblaze.com/ was recommended but are there any others I should look at?

Have a look at crash plan:

Thanks, I know crashplan but hoping for something I can access individual files online when I need them.

    Has anyone used https://www.amazon.co.uk/clouddrive/home ?

I've been using Backblaze for years. Just works.
In the event of a crash they can even send the entire content of your disk back to you on another disk (for return or purchase) if you dont want to waste time doing individual file restores.

Thanks I've heard good things. But is it more of a disaster recovery? Does it allow you to log in and find individual files - like dropbox or google driver etc?

You're conflating two types of product.

    Sync: Dropbox, GDrive, iCloud
    - More expensive per gig
    - Live
    - Provides "access everywhere"
    - Expensive on hosts (Try starting a computer with 500GB of smallish files in Dropbox)

Backup: Backblaze, Crashplan, Carbonite, Amazon Glacier
    - Much cheaper per gig
    - Incremental
    - Limited/no remote access
    - Much easier on hosts

    eg:
Dropbox €10/mo for 2TB vs Crashplan €4-5/mo for UNLIMITED (really unlimited).

I've about 700GB of photos and videos similar to yourself and use Crashplan. Theyre a bit slow but allow me to send them encrypted garbage so that they store it but have no access to it. Same goes for three letter agencies.
