Such a terrific actor. I particularly liked him as Caligula in I Claudius.

    He loved Ireland too.

Your video isn't available in Ireland, ironically enough

Thanks for that, didn't realise it was geo-blocked, BBC should be charged for that, don't put stuff up on youtube if it denies anyone on internet land to see it.

Something must be done about the intolerable situation of more than one old person dying in a calendar year.

Particularly when it never happened before 2016. Who started this rubbish ?

Anyway, sad about John Hurt. Great actor and lovely man.

Sad to hear this he was a great actor. I loved the storyteller when I was a child It was his voice that made it plus the dog

Met him once, came across as a kind and genuine person. Sorry to hear of his passing.

I heard today on BBC News that he had given a generous amount of money & time to Childline.

I thought he was a great actor in The Field & Harry Potter movies. May he RIP.

Just reading about John Hurt's passing and watching the video link below on the Irish Independent.

What's annoying me is that every deceased actor or actress is almost defined by the role they played in the Harry Potter series. Richard Harris, Peter Cartwright, Alan Rickman and now John Hurt

To be fair the FB generation will not have seen a lot of these actors in anything except the HP films.

The unique voice of John Hurt, the man not the actor, trying to save lives.

I don't understand how anyone my age (36) would ever have seen a Harry Potter movie?! Maybe if you've had kids. But yeah, I keep hearing every British and Irish actor under the sun has been in the movies.

They need to educate themselves. The world consists of more than just the FB generation.

I'm with you on the HP films, never seen a single one, no intention or interest in ever seeing one, as I am an adult and I always assumed they were kids films?

Is it true that he turned down the part of Harry Monday in the prequels?

Superb actor. Hurt could play so many diverse roles. But I'll always remember him for the alien bursting out of his chest in Alien.

You's are both talking absolute nonsense, there not just kids films, I'm 36 and I've no kids and love all the films, there based on a book series full a adult themes, its like saying star wars is for kids

    A tremendous actor.
Aside from the well known roles, i thought he was brilliant as Quentin Crisp in the Naked Civil Servant.

    RIP
