Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Cranberries are not universally critically acclaimed though. :confused:In fact I remember one memorable critic review I read years ago where the critic compared her voice and lyrical talent to Phoebe from Friends.

And I disagree that you can't consider something crap just because others don't. Her voice and songs offend my ears.

But apparently I can't say that because I'm not a recording artist myself.

A link would be handy and one bad review does not make them bad.

I also didn't say they were universally critically acclaimed. I said there first two albums were received very well. Their later albums were weaker.

"Write it down for me ... oh Padraic, sure why didn't you just say that".

One of the better Gift Grub moments there.

    I'd forgotten all about that!!

It was a review I read probably fifteen years ago now. It's memorable to me but I have no idea what journalist wrote it or if it is even available online now. Not everything can be linked, ya know? You are welcome to decide that said review doesn't exist because a link can't be provided. That's your call.

So, they weren't universally critically acclaimed but yet are apparently beyond criticism because some critics liked them. How does that work?

I hate the Cranberries. Their lyrics are crap and yer wan's caterwauling hurts my soul. That some critics liked her doesn't change my view and I don't see what their opinions should. Critics are not infallible. I can make up my own mind about whether or not I liked something myself.

Those gunshots on I just shot John Lennon scared the ship out of me the first time I heard it.

Linger was one of the best debut singles of its era. It was all downhill from there though. Similar to Coldplay's Yellow...promised so much, delivered so little.

Yeah they peaked very ealy with "Linger" alright, which was a bit unfortunate.
I've a soft spot for "Promises" though, I'd say it's the best of their later efforts (the video is a bit mad though!)

Can't agree with the Coldplay comparison though as "Yellow" is one of my most hated songs of all time! :p For me, I'd say "The Scientist" was where they peaked. Chris Martin's whiney voice does my head in, at least Dolores O'Riordan's voice has a bit of power to it!

Just listened to No Need To Argue there for the first time ever. They sure could write a melody even if they were a little bland at times.

Her lyrical choices are odd too. The words to Ode To My Family are strange at times but moving nevertheless.
