It's going to be a fun few weeks after tonight's result and Harps, Pats and Sligo picking up points this weekend.

    Derry 3-0 Limerick

I wasn't at this myself, just following updates.

And the updates made ugly reading, as we conceded in the first minute, and then again after 9 minutes. Sounds like we were miles off the pace and offered nothing.

Derry made it 3 late on after another defensive error.

Next game: away to Dundalk, Friday August 4th, 7.45.

    Dundalk 3-0 Limerick

Dundalk ran out easy winners tonight. After a even 30 minutes, Dundalk scored out of nothing. Davy O'Connor gave away a free kick which they fired over Clarke and into the top corner. Clarke should have done better.

In the second half, they scored twice in 3 minutes from two set-pieces and that was that. One from a free header, and another from a free header glanced in with another header. Tosi blazed over from close range and Lynch had couple of shots but we offered very little in attack all night.

Next game: (edit) away to Cobh in the FAI Cup, Saturday August 12th.

    Cobh Ramblers 0-3 Limerick

    (Coughlan 2, Ogbene)

I wasn't able to make this due to work, but Limerick progressed to the next round of the FAI Cup with what looked like a comfortable win in Cobh tonight.

We went ahead after 13 minutes through Coughlan. The same player made it 2-0 after half an hour, and Ogbene added a third 5 minutes later.

We scored some goals, got back to winning ways, our new Hungarian player made his debut, we rested/dropped a few players, and hopefully all that will help us for the next league game, which is a big one.

Next game: home to Shamrock Rovers, Tuesday April 14th, 7.45pm

    Limerick 0-2 Shamrock Rovers

Routine win for Rovers against a rudderless Limerick tonight.

We almost sneaked a goal inside the first 20 seconds, but Dean Clarke blazed over from the right side of the area, and that was as good as we did all night. Rovers had more possession and territory but didn't do much with it until just before half-time, when they scored from a free header from a corner. And, given our utter lack of threat in attack, that was pretty much it.

They scored again on the hour, after a misplaced header and the resulting panicked clearance fell straight to their player, and we never ever looked like getting back into it. A Tosi header from a corner that floated just wide was the best we did in the second half.

We are in real trouble, make no mistake, as I have no idea where the goals are going to come from, and out midfield gives up possession so easily that our shaky defence will always be under lots of pressure.

Next game: home to Bohemians, Saturday August 19th, 6.30 pm.

    Limerick 1-0 Bohemians

    (Tosi penalty)

Limerick got back to winning ways tonight, and it was a very good performance that really should have been a more comfortable victory. We had already had a good Ogbene one-on-one chance before Tosi was held back as he went for a header, and he converted the penalty to give us the lead. Bohs pressed but we were dangerous on the break. and Ogbene missed a couple more chances to go further ahead. Bohs had a penalty of their own, but Brendan Clarke saved to his left.

In the second, we remained dangerous, and Ogbene remained wasteful. He missed a couple more chances, and a Coughlan ball across the box somehow missed everybody about yards out, and Tosi came close with a header and a shot.

We should have made the game safe, and Boh had run out of ideas, but at 1-0 it was always nervy, and they almost nicked it very late on, with a player blazing over from a cutback after Cotter was caught out for position.

Real sense of relief when we managed to see it out for what is a very welcome win after the recent run of games.

Next game: home to Finn Harps in the FAI Cup, Saturday August 26th, 6.30pm

FAI Cup: Limerick 1-0 Finn Harps

    (O'Connor)

Limerick advance to the quarter-finals of the FAI cup after a fairly laboured victory over 10-man Finn Harps.

Harps are a defensive team at the best of times, happy to sit with lots of players behind the ball and make opposition teams break them down. It was the same tonight, with nothing of note until they went down to 10 men, after a player had a silly kick out at Davy O'Connor who was shepherding him away from a ball over the top.

Even then, we didn't create much at all, mostly stringing passes across the midfield with 10 Harps players between the ball and the goal. Our best chance came when Steven Kenny dispossessed a Harps player just outside the box to go one-on-one with the keeper, but fired it straight at him.

We took the lead when substitute Coughlan wriggled his way to the end line and floated a lovely cross to the far post, where Davy O Connor raced in to power a header into the net. After that we kept up the pressure, but still didn't create much.

With just one goal in it, things were always a bit nervy, and we were guilty of really overplaying things at times rather than doing the simple stuff, but Harps never really threatened a goal, and Coughlan almost made it 2 right at the end.

Next game: Home to Finn Harps, Friday September 1st, 7.45pm

Garbhan Coughlan released, as he wants to move to New Zealand.

Disappointing, as he was one of our few players with a bit of craft about him.

Absolutely dreadful tonight in the second half, McDonald's changes really played into the hands of Harps and killed the game altogether.

    Limerick 0-2 Finn Harps

Sickening stuff tonight as Limerick we dragged into the relegation battle.

The first half was not bad at all. Finn Harps came to Limerick looking for a point and set up accordingly, defending deep and in numbers, and hoping for something on the break. As a result we had all the possession and territory, and fashioned a few chances, the best of which was probably Lee Lynch's one-on-one, which the keeper diverted for a corner. Berki also had a chance, failing to make clean contact from a corner, with the ball getting scrambled off the line.

Not long before halftime, Harps scored with pretty much their only attack of the half. Between them, Clarke, Crowe, and O'Connor failed to clear a ball, and Harps put a man in behind the defence. His shot from a tight angle was parried by Clarke, but they score from the rebound.

Right on halftime Limerick were awarded a penalty when Berki was held in the area, which also produced a straight red card, but Tosi missed the penalty, firing it against the post. So we were 1 down at halftime, but had done ok, and still had some hope.

The second half, however, was an embarrassment. A humiliation. Harps put 10 men behind the ball and set us the puzzle of unlocking their defence, and we never ever looked like doing so. We huffed and puffed and passed the ball aimlessly back and forth in front of them, waiting for an opportunity to magically appear, but we created nothing.

To make matters worse, the scored a farce of a goal to seal the game. A ball forward looked harmless enough, but as our defenders and keeper hesitated and waited for each other to deal with it, their striker nipped in to steal the ball and knock it into an empty net.

Atrocious stuff, real relegation stuff, the worst I have seen, not only this year, but for a good few years.

Next game:away to Galway in the FAI Cup, Friday Sept 9th, 7.45pm.

Had the tactical genius that is Neil McDonald stayed with the 442 we might have won tonight but at least would have got a draw. Lynch and Cotter had success in the first half teaming up and getting in behind the defenders and getting crosses into the box.

Taking off Cotter and switching to 352 was the nail on the coffin tonight and knew we weren't gonna get anything out of the game. Instead of having two wide players on the right teaming up to try and create overlaps we were stuck with just a wing back who struggled to do things on his own on the wing and forced to send in crosses from deep.

Also if I was Shane Tracy I'd be asking for my contract to be cancelled, I aint Shanes biggest fan but he's twice the footballer that O'Connor is who is out of his depth trying to play full back. Does not look comfortable with the ball at his feet and Tracy is our best set piece taker plus can actually cross a ball.

FAI Cup Quarter Final: Galway 1-2 Limerick

    (Tosi, Duggan)

Limerick will be in the FAI Cup semi-final for the first time since 1994 after a hard-fought win in Galway tonight.

It was an even first half between two well-matched teams. Both sides passed the ball around well and looked busy, but chances were at a premium, with shots from distance the most likely form of attack/.

In the second half Limerick gradually began to win the battle, with Bastien Hery simply brilliant in midfield. We went ahead when a Stephen Kenny shot was parried by their keeper, and Tosi reacted fasted to score the rebound. We kept the pressure up and went 2-0 up with out best move of the match. Tosi controlled a deep ball and laid it off to Lynch, who crossed to the far post. Ogbene controlled and delayed his centre until Duggan arrived in the box, to control and fire home.

Galway had struggled to trouble us all night, but finally got in behind out back 4 after a delicate flick sent a striker in behind Shane Tracy. Clarke did well to save a shot from point-blank range, but it fell to another striker to score.

With just a 1-goal lead the final 10 minutes were nervy, but because of the scoreline rather than what Galway were actually creating. Apart from a couple of shots and some crosses into the box, we weren't in real danger, and saw it out for a win which keeps our cup run alive and will give us more confidence in our team too.

Next game: Away to Bray Wanderers, Friday Sept 15th, 7.45pm

    Bray 1-1 Limerick

    (Ogbene)

A draw was probably a fair result after an even match tonight.

In the first half Limerick probably had the better of things but neither team was able to create much, until Bray scored out of nothing with a free header from a cross.

We equalised early in the second half when Ogbene broke free down the right and cut inside to beat 2 defenders and score a super goal.

After that it was a fairly even game. Bray's best chance was a penalty after an awful decision by the referee when Cotter clearly got the ball. Clarke got down brilliantly to his left to save. Limerick came close through a Tosi header, a Tracy freekick and a Duggan shot, but couldn't find the net. A decent result, but Galway beat Derry to keep us in the relegation battle.

Next game: home to Cork, Friday September 22nd, 7.45.

How many limerick fans with ye bring to this. Would expect about 200 but more would make a great atmosphere.
Should be close to a sell out

Ya I would think around 200 will travel. If it had been on the Saturday I'd say more. The 7:15 kick off will catch some. Should be a cracking atmosphere and if our lads can do their part it should make for an entertaining game.

    Limerick 2-1 Cork

    (Tosi, Tracy)

Great night to be in the Markets Field, as Limerick took 3 invaluable points off champions-elect Cork.

We were almost 1 down after about 20 seconds when a Whitehead mixup allowed a shot on goal, and then after about 60 seconds, with Tracy needing to head off the line.

But we were the ones to profit from an error, when ex-Limerick player Williams left a harmless ball for the keeper who didn't come for it, and Tosi raced in to chip over the stranded keeper and in off the post. Just two minutes later it was 2-0. Ogbene was fouled outside the area and Tracy curled a freekick into the top corner, with the keeper expecting it to go the other way.

Amazing atmosphere at that moment, but Cork pulled one back just a few minutes later. Barry Cotter, who had a nightmare of a first half, gave the ball away needlessly and when Cork eventally worked a cross into the box, he was beaten at the back post by a Cork player to head in.

For the rest of the half, and for the rest of the game, it was a Limerick rearguard action. Cork pressed and pressed, with Limerick trying to relieve pressure whenever possible, which Ogbene and Tosi did brilliantly, and with Hery protecting the defence.

Clarke made good saves, there were near misses, dangerous crosses, deflections, a brilliant Dean Clarke block, and an agonising wait for the final whistle, but it eventually did arrive.

Amazing night, amazing result, and the fury of Caulfield on the Cork bench made it even sweeter.

Next game: away to Cork in the FAI Cup semi final, Friday Sept 29th, 7.15pm
