Hi folks prospective new train commuter, just wondering what the 5:40 from Portlaoise is like to Heuston, is it busy? Is it usually on time? Many seats?

Likely very quiet, you would be guaranteed a seat and it starts off from Portlaoise

    Loads of room on it.

Generally on time, even if it leaves a few mins late leaving it absolutely flies up, you are usually in Heuston before 6:30.

Seating never an issue, it picks up a good few in Kildare and New bridge but never comes close to full.
