It wouldn't be a shock for Wright to win...surprising though if he won by 6 or 7 legs.

    Choked.

Top end professional sport is ruthless.

MVG was a killer when he saw the line in the final leg. Peter wasn't. You never know, it might be the making of him.

Wright completely blew, he lost the head and couldn't see it out.

Big mvg fan but gotta feel for Peter, undoubtedly no2 in the world and improving every year

Cruel game. Hope it doesn't affect Peter and he can continue his domination this year. He is well able for Michael now can't wait for the World Matchplay

Will Peter play with Anderson at the World Cup next month? I see Jellle Klassen is out of it with a wrist injury...

That was sick, I can only imagine how drunk Peter Wright is right now.

7-2 up, 6 darts for the title, and he lost the match.

Feel so bad for him but he only has himself to blame. Was the better player for most of the match, but couldn't put it to bed. His mental block vs Michael will only get bigger from here.

He beat Micheal 6-0 in the final of the German darts masters two weeks ago,

He beat MvG in two if the last 3 finals they were in. I think the mental block is more with himself than MvG. At the UK Open a lot of the big guns wheren't there so though it was a major he knew the monkey wasn't quite off his back and one dart away from his first proper major having beaten the best to win it that monkey but it's little monkey arms around his neck and choked him.

It's quite clearly a mental thing. You could see it in his body language after he lost the leg where he missed the 6 darts. He was bent over holding his head as if he had lost despite the fact that he was still throwing for the match was favourite to win it. He completely lost the head. It's something he needs to work on as he already had reputation before tonight as a nearly man for the same reasons.

He as much said that himself

MVG when he smells blood in the water he's incredible . that finish 60,60, double 4 instead of T18, T14, D16 . he's the best there's ever been

One thing beating him in a small non tv tournament final, another doing it in a major (even though I hate the PL being called a major) with the sky sports cameras on you.

If he had done a number on Michael 11-6 or so last night it would have done amazing things for his confidence. Knowing he's capable of trouncing the best around in a big tv final.

Will Peter play with Anderson at the World Cup next month? I see Jellle Klassen is out of it with a wrist injury...

    Teams released tomorrow (Monday).

    Couple of interesting spots.
Holland. Will be Barney&MVG. Klassen higher ranked than RVB but injured. Would probably not have played regardless.

Scotland. Should be the very strong team of Anderson and Wright, but Thornton may be there instead of one or t'other.

England. Lewis&Wade by the rankings. However Taylor&Lewis are defending champs.
