Cheap taxi from Heuston station to airport?

I have to go to the airport this weekend from Galway and while I usually drive I can't do so this time. I have very bad experiences with the buses (gobus/citylink) so I'm taking the train.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of an easy and cheap way to get to the airport from Heuston station. I don't really like the 747 bus because it's cramped and it takes forever with its winding route through the city center.

I've taken taxis before but they're around 40 euro which is a bit much, would anyone know of a hackney company that specialises in this? I know all the ones in Galway but I'm rarely in Dublin so I don't really know the setup there.

Ah thanks!! That sounds like the way to go! I had no idea such a deal was in place.

Luas to Busaras or The Point, and the 747 from there - it gets to the airport in about 15 mins and is only €6/€10 return.

Thers a 747 bus from hueston to the airport it's quick, uses the port tunnel . Daily bus passes work on it too .

OP is right, the 747 all the way from Heuston is painful, it goes around the world for sport through the city.

You can bypass most of that by taking the Luas to Busáras or The Point.

Thanks guys! Never thought of that either - good idea!

Ye're right, it's not that bad from those stops. And the Luas is quick as well. I'll see how much time I have, if the train's delayed I'll take the taxi form busaras, if I have plenty of time I'll take the 747 from the point.

Thanks again for all the help!

The 747 goes from Busaras as well.

I've often amused myself on the Luas bit of the journey by calculating which would be more efficient in terms of waiting time - Busaras or The Point - using the RTPI and Luas websites. I fully accept that this may not be amusing to most of the rest of the population, though!

Heh, I was thinking of that too (and betting on the point). But it depends on where the bus really is at that time.

Is that "Realtime ireland" app actually accurate in Dublin? In Galway it's often very far off the mark. It does not simply show the official timetable however, so it must be doing something 'realtimey' but whatever it uses it's not very accurate. Buses often come and go on the app but none appear in real life :) Maybe it relies on the bus driver pressing a button at every stop or something, I don't know.

It's a great idea though, especially here in Galway where the bus service is very unreliable, you could be waiting for ages. I hope they'll improve it more.

The Luas is actually quite slow through town, you'd be surprised! If traffic is light/normal the bus can often be way quicker down the quays from Busaras than the Luas would be trundling through the docklands. But there's only a few minutes in it really.

I've found the RTPI very good mostly - there is the occasional "phantom" bus that I've tracked all the way from the suburbs, and when it's a stop or two away from my local stop I leave the house to catch it - and then suddenly it disappears from the tracker, and has been taken up in a spaceship by aliens for all I know  But in general if the bus actually exists I've found the app very accurate.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm seeing here. Waiting at the bus stop with a few minutes to go, and suddenly <poof>. No more bus :) I don't mind the aliens taking it but they could at least give me a lift then!

I don't take the bus that often, just on saturdays into town sometimes because the traffic can be mental. This happened probably half the times, but I don't take the bus often enough (and probably at the worst times) for it to be by any means indicative of the real performance.

You were done if you were charged 40 euro from Heuston to the airport.

Sounds like the driver took him n4 m50 which may add up to 40. Long way around.

Busaras would be best - the bus stop at the Point has moved further away around to the front of the Point on North Wall Quay.

I'd suggest Luas down to Abbey Street and then the aircoach from O'Connell st (six Euro) out to the airport.

Not sure what problems you've had with GoBus and Citylink. I'd never consider any other option. Always great for me. Obviously, if you're going through Dublin city at certain times, then it will be delayed, but I just take that into consideration

Get the gobus straight to the airport. This switching is burning money.

Ya, I cannot see the point in getting the train into Hueston, then hopping the Luas down to Busarus, before getting the 747 to the airport. The 747 is a great service, but I can't see how you'd make the time up as opposed to getting one of the door to door services from Galway city.

Get the NON stop bus from galway direct to airport. Much less hassle than train and def cheaper. If u must get train u could hop of in Maynooth and get bus to airport.
