Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Surprised there isn't a thread yet. Big game.

Arsenal have their best forward line on the pitch again, but Chelsea are a juggernaut right now at home.

2-1 Chelsea IMO, and the final nail in Arsenal's title coffin for another season.

Chelsea win please, might as well hammer home their advantage at this stage and give the rest of the Top 4 a boost.

We're too scared to make a thread, it's not lack of interest :D

Absolutely no confidence in getting a result, it's Chelsea away. I'd take a point in a heartbeat, even if it doesn't really help

Even if they do hit a speed wobble their final 3 games are very decent.

Hopefully a win for them today to keep our faint top 4 ambitions going.

Big goal! That might be the goal that makes Chelsea's lead unassailable. Cracking build up pkay, Alonso shows brilliant fight to win that 50/50. Top team.

Someone remind that lad he's a full back :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

    Get in.

Alonso is usually more attacking in those situations than Moses, does well to get in for the goal.

    Soft from arsenal though.

Wish we still had the best right back in the league - Bacary Sagna.

Elbow him clean in the face. Seems fair

Arsenal whinging about physicality. Seems standard.

    It is so strange.
Usually that would be a yellow card. The elbow connected with his face. It is a foul.
    Awful decision.

    No no, just the foul

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,161 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Yeah he's only gone off with a concussion. Nothing major

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

Was it Coquelin that snoozed there and hung Bell out to dry on his own?
At least if he ran for the ball he'd have the momentum to jump properly with Alonso as opposed to Bellerin being caught underneath it.

EDIT - it was Walcott not Coq

And looking at replays, he did get an elbow in the mush

Absolutely nothing wrong with that goal. Never a foul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,308 ✭✭✭Pyjamarama

I want Chelsea to win and that goal should never have stood. He elbowed him in the face... and Neville didn't even mention it... madness. You wouldn't be let do that in rugby.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

This Chelsea side has the physicality, the mentality and now the free flowing nature of a really top team. They look terrifying here today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,850 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

I'm surprised the commentators aren't really making anything of the elbow.

He hit Bellerin badly before he headed the ball. I'd have it as a foul anyway.

I thought Walcott but may not have been. Either way whoever it was they should have reacted and ran with Alonso.

Given how soft some of the decisions are for fouls in the air, if there was any consistency that probably should be a foul.

If that was outside the box it probably would've been a free kick to Arsenal but refs don't want to be killjoys.

I think it was walcott who gave up following his runner

How anyone could actually think this is beyond me. He got elbowed in the face. What more do you want? Him to get decapitated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,048 ✭✭✭Unearthly

That is the most blatant foul ever but if it gets me an Arsenal fan tv rant later then all is good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Thats never a foul both going for the ball. Goal is fine walcott doesnt help Bellerin by walking off

Good opening few minutes. Arsenal to nick a draw if a few of them decide to turn up. Sanchez better lash the sudocream on otherwise.

I assume it is just the "I'll disagree for the sake of disagreeing" brigade. Otherwise, it isn't the most intelligent of assessments

If bellerin clear the ball and elbows alonso irs not a penalty

    Nonsense.
They both went for the ball, correct. But the elbow did connect with the face.
It was a foul. The ref missed it.

It 100% should be. You can't elbow someone in the head while jumping. Accidental or not.

Chelsea just look more up for it

    Big if there.
But if you go up for a header, and use your elbows, and connect with an opponent. The ref should give a free kick or penalty, depending where obviously.

Same thing all the time for Arsenal. Is it a foul? Maybe, it's debatable but in those big moments against the big teams Arsenal always fail to be up for the fight and Arsenal fans are left clinging to what might have been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

I actually thought it was "banter" when the first few people said it wasn't a foul. It's a foul all day. Led with the elbow, connected with the elbow. John Fashanu wouldn't have got away with that back in the day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭Essien

It's unfortunate that he took a slap, but if we're calling those fouls we might as well just ban players for being taller or jumping higher. There wasn't a shred of malice in it.

If it's Cech that gets elbowed it's always a free out. It's blatantly a foul :D

^ this guy as well, "took a slap". Yeah ok mate

Agreed with the rest of the post. 3 points for chelsea today
