I have a hard drive that died. Tried lots but the computer cant see it. Dropped it into a local place,t hey replaced the PCB but still nothing, so it needs a specialist place now. I have a lot of photos I don't want to loose. I know this is not going to be cheap. €500 I could stomach but €100 I'm not sure.

Can anyone recommend where I should send my drive for a proper service that wont cost too many arms and legs?

    http://www.computersunlimited.ie/data-recovery/
the cost depends will the data be recovered by using just software ,
is the a physical problem with the drives, platters ,mechanism.
Ask for a quote,it ,ll cost say x euros, before they do all the work.
They,ll give you a rough estimate.
    try using free program ,recuva.
plug in the drive to a pc.click on drive name in my computer.
place a finger on the top centre of the drive .
Can you feel the vibration as the drive spins up .
    can you hear any noise.
from the drive .clicking or grinding.?

I have used https://www.criticaldata.ie before ( I have no connection with them)for a job I was called to where a company had a failed server. The server had a failed raid array and they were able to recover everything. Their price depends on the size of the drive. They were very helpful on the phone and will give you an idea of costs before you commit. Good luck with the recovery.
