    Hello,

Just wondering what's the cut off time for a meter reading before the next bill is issued.

Say my bill is due 1st of March.

What would be the last day to submit the reading so it shows correctly on the bill.

    Hi 0ph0rce0,

Thank you for getting in touch.

ESB Networks read the meter for all electricity suppliers. The billing date will depend on their meter reading cycle. Their meter readers plan to read the meter for four times a year. There will always be two estimations. If your meter is inside or not accessible, you will have more estimations. In this case, they will usually leave a card asking for a reading to be supplied via text, online or over the phone.

We would not recommend sending a meter through to Electric Ireland in advance of a bill. The only time a customer should submit a meter reading directly to Electric Ireland is if they require an interim bill, a bill correction, or they are moving property.

The bi-monthly meter reading is supplied to Electric Ireland by ESB Networks. As such, we would recommend waiting for the bill to issue before submitting the reading to Electric Ireland directly, or submitting the reading to ESB Networks directly if you receive a card. You can find information relating to submitting the meter reading to ESB Networks here.

If you would like to submit a meter reading to Electric Ireland, we would recommend contacting us on Social Media (here on Boards.ie, Facebook or Twitter) or over the phone on 1850 372 372 (8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday).

If you have a query relating to your account, or would like to submit a meter reading, please provide us with the following details:
    • Your full name
    • Your account number
    • The first line of your address
    • Your contact number or date of birth
    • Confirmation you are the account holder (a sentence stating this is sufficient)

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,
    Aoife

    Thank you for the reply.

Not trying to be smart but every other company texts you and says enter your reading 3 days before billing to ensure correct price is on the bill.

Why would i want the bill to be estimated and end up overpaying or underpaying at every billing date?

If i enter a reading 2 weeks before a bill are you saying that a bill is then generated 2 weeks before my bill date and then another bill on the actual bill date?

    Just trying to understand sorry.

    Hi again 0ph0rce0,

    Thanks for your message.

With regard to the six annual scheduled bills, we recommend only sending in a meter-reading when one of those scheduled bills is estimated. If that bill is over-estimated, it will be cancelled by the accurate meter-reading and replaced by the correct bill. If it is under-estimated, the remaining balance will be generated by the reading (for adding to the under-estimated bill).

If you send us a meter-reading too close in time to the scheduled bill (which will either be based on a meter-reading by ESB Networks, or an estimate if they do not read the meter) the system may reject it, due to the scheduled bill pending release.

If you send us a meter-reading in advance of the scheduled bill and this reading generates a bill, the scheduled bill based on ESB Networks' reading/estimate will still issue afterwards.

Since the six scheduled bills will be issued either way, this is why we recommend just sending in a meter-reading upon receipt of a scheduled bill that is estimated.

If the customer pays by direct debit, we recommend sending in a correction meter-reading immediately, in order to give the bank sufficient notice of the change.

The quickest way to have a meter-reading processed is either to provide it to a Customer Service advisor on 1850 372 372 up to 8pm Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays) or to send it to us here on Social Media (Boards.ie, Facebook and Twitter). We are online until 6pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

If you have any further queries, please let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Una
