The band of precipitation over the UK currently looks well defined and should make its way across the Irish Sea later. At sea level conditions will be marginal as usual but hills should sea a decent amount.
Currently here in Waterford some welcome breaks in the clouds.
    Temp 1.9c DP -1.5c

Two or three showers of snizzle in Delgany - cloud thickening all the time - i'm excited

The longer we can hold the N or NW wind the better. Should be sleet/snow with that... once it swings NE things will turn the wrong side of marginal below 200m.

    was it this article?

    http://theconversation.com/the-atlantic-is-entering-a-cool-phase-that-will-change-the-worlds-weather-42497

    i found this bit interesting:
The ocean went through a warm period in the 1930s/1940s and again in the 1990s/2000s. However the 1970s/1980s were much cooler and there are hints of a transition to a relatively cold period at the moment.

    The last sentence in particular.
GavinP mentioned the AMO on one of his excellent vidjas recently too. He claimed that it in the run up to the 'switch' that it would waver between warm and less warm states until then. The north Atlantic is still in a warm state currently but the cool 'blob', which formed a couple of years back (and may have been partly responsible for the cool summer of 2015) is still not going away completely, but is much less marked over the last 6 or 7 months or so.

Will be interesting to see (if we still are alive that is!) if the AMO switch to a cooler phase over the next 3 or 4 years will occur. If it does, it could help cool down our winters a bit as I think the 80s was a period when the AMO was also in a cool phase?

Really?? I'm in d7 and it's a lot milder than yesterday and certainly saw no flakes or anything remotely resembling snow falling from the sky and I'm outside all morning

Light rain/drizzle here as expected, oh well.
