hi, our tv blew up last nite. there was a bang and screen went black. No standby light, nothing. It's about 7 years old. It's a flat screen 40". Is it worth repairing or just get a new one.

My opinion is to get a new TV

no point in wasting money on a TV out of warranty when you could invest the repair money into a new high end TV

I would be inclined to agree with Honky, but if you want to see what options for repair you have there is a TV repair place called Plasmacare off the Nangor road in Dublin 12, you could give them a ring for an estimate.
