Roosky-Mullingar is at least 10 years away from opening, important to keep that in mind. It's also not committed to beyond getting it to An Bord Pleanala by 2022 or so.

That's a pity to hear as a regular user of the road the 2 slowest parts are Mullingar to Longford and Carrick which is a disaster in the summer.

The stretch from Mullingar to Longford is quite bad for road fatalities as well.

Agreed. They are both to start planning & design at some stage in 2019, but it will be 5/6 years at the very least before they start construction.

Looks like they are making good progress and may be ahead of schedule.

Not really causing any delays to traffic as of yet which is good.

I would be absolutely shocked if it didn't open early. The planned opening is Q4 2021 and it looks like they may beat that by several months.

Its looking very good now was on the road a few times over Xmas , little things like adding more overtaking lanes similar to the curlews on other existing wide parts of the road between Mullingar and Longford would reduce the journey times by 10/15 mins and make it a lot safer for overtaking.

It looks like at least part of the new road should open early unless there’s some exceptional event to prevent it in over the next year. The bridge beams across the old N4 at Ardloy is another great sign.

It’s unlikely there will be any minor works to improve the existing N4. All funding from now ok apart from resurfacing will be going on the 52km N4 Mullingar-Roosky scheme and the 21km Carrick on Shannon to Dromod scheme. That’s a full 73km of N4 to be converted to dual carriageway hopefully within the latter half of this decade.

Widening of the M4 between Maynooth and Leixlip is on the cards too further on but won’t have the same gains as the bypasses further west.

In other news, Sligo Council are also progressing a 55km new road between Knock and Collooney for those who may have missed it. http://www.sligococo.ie/N17KCAEC
