Does anybody know what weight of oil to put in a 2004 320i? Synthetic or semi? i looked in the handbook and it only mentions a brand of bmw oil to use and not the details. How many liters it takes would also be useful to know :)

I use that in my e36. Fully synthetic.

MicksGarage has offers on oil every so often.

I wait till they have a deal and buy enough oil for 2 or 3 changes.

(I change oil and filter at half intervals, n47 engine, not taking any chances)

I don't believe in the rediculas long oil intervals

Castrol Edge 0w30 which carries the BMW LL04 (LONGLIFE04) which is the spec you need. Burke West Ltd are main distributor in the West and they fastway it to me. Can't put details here I presume so PM if you need.

He saved you the effort of reading the manual for the spec required didn't he?

Castro Edge 5w30 no longer carries the BMWLL04 spec. Edge 0w30 is now required when using Castrol for BMW. Better for Fuel Economy also.

    I didn't mention Castrol.
Wouldn't put that in a lawnmower!!

I'm gonna subscribe to grogis theory here, unless your petrol car specifically requests some fancydan water weight oil, a good A3B4 is the jawb.

    Is what you need.

Why do people ask what they need, and then ignore the correct advice.

Next time I'm gonna reccomend 10w40 mineral Castrol gtx

5W-30 is perfect for M54 engine cars, in fact, I'm sure that's what they came with factory.

Hahaha hahaha haha, the attitude, did you want us to hold your hand and walk you round halfords or what?

So what did the handbook say... LL01 spec?

The only attitude here is yours. Others provided helpful advice and i thanked them for it. You repeated what i had already read and what i had said i already knew.

You said it recommended some bmw brand.

You did not say what that was.

BMW LL01 rated oil is manufactured by many oil companies.
It is not a brand it is a spec.

Honestly I'm still just guessing at what you already knew though because your posts were just so poor on information and big on attitude.

So if it said LL01 why did you buy LL04?

Oh no, I made my positive contribution way back.

I'm just pointing out that I couldn't have known what you claim you knew but disregarded.... as you never said what the handbook said.

Was it a test? If some of us told you the right answer that you already knew from the book... who got it right?
