Yeah, it was a head scratcher at the time too. Basically, Giroud was being punished for sleeping around, and Podolski was just being treated the way he always was. Very frustrating.

Because it is much harder to finish 4th than win the Europa League. Finishing 4th is a definite sign of a more successful season as it is a bigger accomplishment.

Geez, it's no wonder your club is in the state it's in.

Good luck for the coming season.
I hope you realise how genuinely idiotic this reads. No wonder arsenal are in a state because of a poster's opinion on an Irish forum?

Well that's just mad from Wenger if they were fit. My recollection must be way off too.

He was punishing Giroud at that point from what i remember for late night shenanigans in the teams hotel room before playing Crystal Palace earlier that season but he seemed to be closed off to the prospect of playing Podolski up top or indeed as part of two up front and play either Ramsey or Ozil in the hole right behind him or even Sanogo beside Podolski.

Instead he played an inexperienced kid in Arsenals biggest European game to date out of stubbornness.

Sanogo scored, didn't he? Or am I mixing that up with another game? Memory is traumatised by Arsenal shenanigans lately

I'm the same although I don't pay much heed to the Cups anyway as I believe the League is the one to be winning or trying to win.

Well how do we see Sunday going lads?
I'd be happy with an away point to be fair.
I'll be listening in from Croker.

I don't know what way it's going to go with this team. So inconsistent. It must be 5 or 6 defeats in a row at that ground now? Last time a win or even a point was gained there was the RVP 5-3 match. I'm just hoping that the team actually show up and put in a proper shift, which was seriously lacking at Anfield.

I think an Arsenal win is as likely as Mayo unfortunately

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,093 ✭✭✭gitzy16v

I'll be devastated if the Dubs lose,if Arsenal lose I'm not sure I'll be too bothered, certainly not surprised.

Are the matches on the same time Sunday?
I'll be watching the Dubs and reading this thread if that's the case.

    Sadly, I agree.

Even hope has been drained from my support

I'll not rule Mayo out just yet.
They're a gutsy team and have shown that a lot this year.
I'm not superstitious but their name could be written on it this year. They are due it in fairness.
I might have a little bet on two draws though @ 29/10 and 9/1.

9/1 is nice price on the draw...could be worth a little double both draws

Stopped betting on my Gunners years ago, always let me down, thus growing my distain for the team I love. It's an odd relationship!

So it was your fault haha, always assumed it was my fault for backing us.

Be Doing very well to get a draw there.

No chance sadly. Once we face well drilled and well manage sides I seriously worry for us this season, once we come up agaisn't the likes of Bournemouths and Koln's of this world, I think even playing badly 99% of the time we win. But the big games, I have always lowered my expectations.

Would love for us to win there been a lot wait since 2011. But Chelsea do love to whip us at the Bridge

No one is due anything in sport Tayto!

Will be in Croker myself too but I'll catch some of the Arsenal game before hand hopefully.

Wouldn't begrudge Mayo tomorrow but hopefully I'll be drinking a celebratory beer or 2 after an Arsenal dubs double.

A sneaky 2-0 win tomorrow would put us above Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea, so I'm going with that.

Ozil not playing today might be a blessing in disguise. Personally, I'd prefer us to go to a back 4, with Jack or Elneny with Xhaka in central midfield and Ramsey pushed forward into the Ozil role. Who knows which way we might line up.

So a straight switch, with Iwobi in for Ozil. Wouldn't be surprised if we revert to a back 4 again after conceding a couple...

Maitland-Niles also gets a deserved spot on the bench.

Lol, they deleted their tweet and then swapped Laca and Welbeck and retweeted.

Xhaka and Ramsey will get bullied in the middle once again. Can't get my head around why we didn't re-sign Cesc even if it was just to not allow Chelsea to have him, he would have been an integral part of this team.

Once again, a misplaced pass in midfield when we have the ball puts them straight onto attack. It's criminal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,179 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

    Can't get near Chelsea's box

Bit of decent play. Bellerin is miles faster than Alonso, we should be exploiting that way more often.

And again. We have to keep attacking down there.

Pretty cagey even contest so far. Both sides had a couple of decent chances.

Urgh. Ramsey off the post. Falls to Lacazette right in front of goal and he hits over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

    Fck. Miss from Lacazette

    Ramsey having a fine match

If Welbeck had missed that he'd have been crucified. Poor stuff

Only 8% of the play has been in our defensive third. We need to ram this advantage home.

Miss of the year after a brilliant run.

Dominated the last 15 minutes. More of the same in the 2nd half please

Is Bellerin always that good? Looks quality out there today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,332 ✭✭✭the untitled user

Arsenal doing very very well. Very economical in possession for once, and Chelsea are having a turgid time of dealing with Arsenal players swapping positions all over. Overall the team looks a lot more balanced without Sanchez or Ozil. Iwobi and Ramsey consistently overlapping and swapping positions is creating choas in front of Chelsea's defence.
The only real negative from Arsenal's point of view is the finishing obviously, and in particular that David Luiz has Lacazette in his pocket and has rendered him fairly ineffective.

We're going to lose this. I can feel it. Can't see Chelsea being that laid back at the start of the second half, they'll surely squeeze us for the first 10 mins of the 2nd half now.

Ban the overhead kick? No, just don't do it when you're surrounded by players going for the ball.

It's rare you'll be in a position in the box to attempt an overhead and there isn't a defender near you to be fair.

Sad one of the best skills in football is basically being outlawed.

I've seen plenty of overhead kicks where players don't get kicked in the head.

Mustafi has done pretty well at keeping Morata contained.

Sanchez and Hazard on - this should be interesting

But its often down to the bravery of the defender, Kos is the type of player that will put it in where it hurts when others wouldn't, but not sure that entitles him to a free kick, but seems the way the game is going these days.
