Cheapest Branded Contact Lenses

I was looking online for the cheapest branded contact lenses for sale, I would usually use VisionDirect but their delivery charge of €3.99 was putting me off reordering.

I came across this site https://www.feelgoodcontacts.ie who seem to be cheaper than visiondirect and also offer free delivery with no minimum spend. The were coming in a few euro cheaper than VD so I said I would give them a go.

And to make it even cheaper again, tou can also get 10% off using code 7RKQZKMN at check out.

I didn't even realise you could buy contacts without the shop giving the prescription. Are they legit?

Daysoft contact lenses are also good, I've been using them for about 8 years now with no issues, they are €17 for a months supply including delivery. All opticians I've dealt with will give you a copy of your prescription if you request it

Another daysoft user here... No complaints!

Once an order was misplaced and a duplicate order was dispatched, no questions asked!

    Great to deal with.

And another Daysoft customer here. Highly recommended.

I'm definitely going to look into this, but just to let people know about the Vision Express offer. Their Contact7 scheme gives you free aftercare and checkups, free delivery, 50% (if I recall correctly) off frames, and free general eye tests. It's €13 a month, depending on what brand or style of lenses you want.

I'm definitely looking into the options above however. Even if Vision Express costs slightly more, you might save with the free benefits.

Update: I use Dailies Aquacomfort Plus. They're €14.90 each on the site above, but €13 each on the Contact7 scheme.

    Daysoft all the way!!

Great service, quick and the customer care team are great if any issues( once had to change address as was going home to Ireland for a week and they redirected my order for me)

I need toric lenses so I bought some acuvue moist for antistigmatism and didn't really like them.

Can anyone recommend me a good toric brand? Preferably one that's not crazy expensive but I'd rather them be comfortable than cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Gryzor

Daysoft never really worked for me, always dried out in my eyes towards the end of the day..

I get mine from visiondirect.ie, the biofinity monthly ones. 1 X 3 pack of regular, and 1 X 3 pack of toric for €33 delivered. I find them very good

One more here for Daysoft. Using for around 5 years now with no problems at all. Customer service 2nd to none.

Yes, you don't need a prescription to order contacts online. You just need to know what you're prescribed vision is.

Yes, you don't need a prescription to order contacts online. You just need to know what you're prescribed vision is.

I've had mixed results here with this one. I tried an online contact providor in the UK and had to upload a copy of my prescription before theyed deliver. I didnt have a copy of it at the time so didnt order off them.
I got copy of prescription to order off them but in the meantime found daysoft. As good a service as one could wish for. Never looked back.

Didnt need prescription but having said that, its 25e in most places for it, jsut ask for it and walk out. Depending on age, recommend getting new one every few years. Most change in the 38-45 age bracket.

Same here and I tried both their classic and silk. Occasional wearer of contacts but ended up going back to Specsavers and getting even more expensive ones (umere) than the standard and found them well worth the extra few yoyos for the extra comfort.
If daysoft work for ye they are definitely a bargain.

Longtime Daysoft Silk user. They have been pretty good. Very reasonably priced.

My eyes do get a little tired after about 10+ hours of wearing them, however they do suggest (I can't find it online) somewhere between 6-8 hours maximum recommended usage per lens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 836 ✭✭✭LiamaDelta

Daysoft - Using them for almost 10 years now, about 16 hours a day, never had an issue. Much to my opticians dismay though, apparently I should move to silicon hydragel lenses...

That is the problem with Specsavers type model where there is a blurred line between sales person and medical professional. Whenever I tell my optician I am using Daysoft there is always a problem with my eyes. If I use the silicon hydragel that I got a trial last time I was there just for that day only, they never seem to find anything wrong.

    Another vote for daysoft.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 299 ✭✭sullivk

I used Daysoft Silk lenses daily disposables for about 7 years without any issues, found them great and far cheaper than specsavers.
Had to go back to wearing glasses when I was pregnant as my eyes were too dry to wear contacts all the time, still use the daysoft occasionally now.

Daysoft here to.with them about 5 years .never a problem . Saved a fortune

Just be careful with any contact lenses though.

Make sure you get your eye health checked every year if you wear them as you are a high risk of infection and damage using them.I know someone who is an medical eye specialist and they told me horror stories of dirty hands causing infection, people sleeping in them (extremely dangerous) and getting scratches on the eyeball when drunk trying to take them off.

Wasn't really my issue...he just said that in the long term I should move to hydragel, that wearing the daysoft type for prolonged periods could be problematic in the long run. Apparently veins in the eyes can start to move to the front from the constant wearing of them.

+1 for Daysoft, with them about 7 years now and never a problem.

+1 on daysoft classics for over 10 years now, ignore opticians who try to scare you into buying their brand, they are full of it, especially specsavers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,247 ✭✭✭Esse85

Daysoft prices have shot up in recent years, used be much cheaper.

+1 for daysoft order all the time for my daughter she's never had a problem with them

Pretty crazy. Been wearing contacts for 25 years and never heard of Daysoft.

Had a quick look, and they're a fair bit more expensive than the Acuvue Oasys I get through Vision Direct. Currently pay about €60 for 6 months, would be €90 with Daysoft. I think I'll give them a try, though. Haven't used dailies before, never had the need.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭J.pilkington

+1 for daysoft too. The main reason their prices went up a few years(+20% overnight) ago is they used to ship from Channel Islands which was VAT exempt (once order was under a certain value) but the uk hmrc overturned this. Same applied to one of the largest DVD/music companies which closed down almost immediately because of this.

The only downside of them is they have a strange shipping charging method, shipping is priced per months supply, so if you buy three months; shipping is 3x 1 months cost. They should only charge one shipping amount per order. Current model gives no discount for bulk order

Total price for me has gone from 12€ per month back in 2010 or so to just over 16€ per month now - that includes the delivery and the price increase. So still not bad.

+1 on their great customer service too, any time anything goes wrong they will have a new order shipped by DHL that same day without asking any questions. Even if the order is delayed a bit.

To be fair you're not comparing like with like there, Daysoft are generally the cheapest dailies around.

I had a bad experience with daysoft lenses. Changed to them from accuvue and after a few months ran into problems. Was wearing them for about 12 hours a day. Eyes started to feel dry and vision was impaired temporarily (more than usual!), had to use hydrating drops for a month to get back to my normal level of vision. Had been wearing contacts for years with no problems before this. most people seem to get on fine with them but just a word of warning for anyone who does find them drying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 malteasermia

I also had a bad experience with daysoft - used them for about 3 years until over the course of about 2 weeks my eyes just dried up and couldn't take them anymore. Tried not wearing them for a week, but ended up in the eye and ear hospital my eyes were still so red and inflamed. There was no infection, thank god, but they said the lenses were too rigid and cutting into my eyes. I now believe any optician or ophthalmologist when they say to only use optician's brands. My eyes are still dry (18 months later) which they've told me is due to the damage done by lenses. Still using lubricating eye drops every day. A lot of people I know still use daysoft, but just be careful, they can cause damage.

Just stumbled on this thread. Haven't worn contacts in years. Partly because of the cost. Looks like things moved on are cheaper now, excuse my ignorance, I have my prescription for glasses. Can I use this to order contacts or do I need to go to an optician for a contact prescription. Not sure about base size etc.

The prescription is the same and the size is standard but you can book a free contact len checkup with specsavers atm

The prescription is NOT necessarily the same. You should have a contact lens test.

And actually he is correct. I also go to specsavers for my tests and tell them I use daysoftcontacts and my Optometrist says that is no problem at all. But the difference is I don't use them all day, I use glasses while at work (computer) and use the contacts only in the evenings for a few hours for sport use, etc.

He says that is the perfect use for them and no issues at all. However he did warn against using them all day, that they aren't designed for that sort of use and end up drying out the eyes. That if I started using them like that, to come back to him and he would recommend, different monthly lenses for that.

Don't get me wrong, daysoft lenes are brilliant, but you have to understand what they are designed for. They are daily disposables, which are designed for less frequent use, they aren't really used to all day use.
The prescription is the same and the size is standard but you can book a free contact len checkup with specsavers atm

It definitely isn't. My glasses prescription isn't the same as my lens prescription. Things like the shape of your eye needs to be taken into account for lenses, which is a less of an issue for glasses.

Looks like i was not the only unhappy customer with their postage charges as they have just reduced bulk orders as follows as per an email

"Following a review of postal charges and our packaging costs we are able to reduce the price of our 6-month order delivery charge from €12.00 to €7.80 and our 3-month from €6.00 to €4.80. We have also reduced the price of our express delivery to a flat fee of €10.80. These changes will be effective from the 22nd of March.

Unfortunately our 1-month order delivery charge has to be revised upwards from €2.00 to €2.40. This will not be effective until Monday 1st May 2017. For more information on our delivery services, please visit our website. "

I've used Daysoft for years and recommended them to anyone who'd listen, but definitely finding them drying out my eyes half way through the day more recently. Like a "me" change rather than a Daysoft change, but they don't really suit me anymore.

Who's next best in that case? Is there a recommended supplier for monthly's as was thinking of going in that direction too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭localscientist

I have to wear Dailies Total 1 because my eyes are very particular, I have a dry band due to an incomplete blink. I have tried every brand and these are the only ones that suited me!! They're between €25-€35 per month and I've a diff prescription in both eyes so I usually pay in or around €60 for a months supply. Safe to say they're only for special occasions!
