Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Benz GLA - discounted price

Comments

Saw this ad just now. It's a 2017 GLA, & at a very good price. But it says offer ends at the end of Feb. Is this offer available at all Benz showrooms?
Any guess if such an offer would come again soon?

Mercedes did a 10% discount primarily to offset cheap imports from UK when exchange rate was very favourable to buying in STG.

They say it's over this month but who knows! If they have to continue it they will, if not they won't

Well, Benz claims it as SUV and i call it compact SUV. There are leather seats and it's auto and diesel and fancy cabin ;)

33k for a hatchback with non-metallic paint, halogens, 1.5 diesel, no climate control, no sat nav. Bargain.

It's actually an A Class that sits higher off the ground and with beefed up bumpers. 1.5 diesel engine would be the same unit found in Renault, Nissan and Dacia cars, has been around over 10 years now and well tested at this stage.

Except the plastics are recycled only once, contrary to three times in sandero ;)

I've drive a few GLAs and I think it's a Great car and a good price.
Auto box to that diesel is a good combo.
Only issue is black isn't the best colour.

How come Benz using Renault or Nissan engines? Do they not make their own? Is it same in C class? I am surprised!

No point in wasting resources on your own tech when other companies can sell a proven engine to you now.
Purists wouldn't be buying a faux crossover front wheel drive hatchback either way so no worries about brand dilution.

There's also the fact that Mercedes may not see development of small diesels as a long term benefit

The promo prices only apply to the stock left in country that arrived last year. Although stated the end of promo is end of February, reality is that it is just about done.

So they think people will just start paying 11% more come March?

I see. But at the same time these luxury German motors need to keep up their reputation.

What about A class, C class or CLA ? Are they also renault engines?
How come Hyundai or others don't have stylish interior like German cars?
    OSI wrote: »
Ha, it has less spec and power than your average Hyundai and yet the only flag against its luxury status in your book is that it has a Renault engine, which you didn't know about before this thread and they'll still get people that think 33k+ is a bargain, that's why they've started buying engines for their low end models ;-)

A class, b class and cla would have the same engine alright. I think the c class uses the newer 1.6 Renault engine.

The smallest Mercedes build inhouse diesel engine currently is 2.0 litre. Anything smaller than that is a Renault unit.

So there is a GLA with 2.1L engine. Is that Benz inhouse engine?

    2.1 > 2.0

    So yeah.

Is there a similar model from another brand of GLA size and shape? Besides X1 & Audi Q3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,478 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Are you specifically looking at sort of hatchback based crossovers rather than purpose designed crossovers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,830 ✭✭✭masterboy123

I don't know the difference between two. I checked Volvo V40 crossover and didn't like it.

Ok, here's a short list of cars that are roughly the same size.

    Citroen C4 Cactus
    Honda HR-V
    Fiat 500x
    Opel Mokka/Mokka X
    Mazda CX
    Suzuki Vitara/S Cross
    Renault Captur/Kadjar
    Nissan Juke/Qashqai
    Toyota CH-R
    Kia Niro
    Suzuki Vitara
    Jeep Renegade
    Skoda Yeti

I think there's a mini that follows the same logic as the GLA.

Peugeot 2008 would be the same idea too.

    MINI Countryman
    Range Rover Evoque

    Audi Q2 perhaps?

Q2 is not available as 2nd hand yet and it's pricey as a brand new.

    OP mentions 2017?

I am the OP. I did find a 2017 GLA at discounted rate earlier.
