I'll give a clue on this.

They wouldn't be a traditional TV star in the sense of being a character on a show. I suppose you could say that they were a host? However they have made an appearance in popular shows later on as guest stars.

Follow up:

I just checked out his IMDB profile.

No mention of the simpsons.

He has played a similar character in most TV shows he starred in, and that character is on the back of the TV show that he once hosted/presented.

He has also presented some documentaries/documentary type TV shows.

He might not be a household name in Ireland, and he caused some confusion between me and a group of my friends when we discussed him, as he has a name similar to another actor and we got very confused as there is no way that this guy would feature in the roles that the other guy played.

His name rhymes (kinda) with the show that he produced/hosted.
