Does anyone have a heating element in their Gun safe?

My safe is in the attic so it's very cold and in winter I get condensation in my Guns, moving the safe is not an option, does anyone have a heating element in their safe?

Safe in the attic is the quickest way to destroy guns but if u have too Napier do a vapour barrier sachet you can put in the safe. You should also get a dehumidifier as well.

You could insulate the area around the gun safe with kingspan sheets and vent air from the room below so it becomes the same temp . Easily done .

I have my safe in the shed. I don't have a heater installed so I put the rifle in a padded gun slip. Seems to do the trick. You can get small 15w enclosure heaters used in electrical panels. Any good electrical wholesalers will have them.

I have my unheated safe in the attic and never have trouble with condensation. When the guns are taken into the warmth of the rest of the house, thats when condensation hits. The moisture in the warm air drops out when it hits the cold of the metal gun parts. Thats why i take them out of the safe early when heading out, and give them a chance to "breathe", because if i was to put them straight into the slips, there would be rust.

As a precaution i spray the insides of the safe with a solvent like wd40 or vp90, and of course never handle the metal with bare skin when putting them away.

I have my safe in the house. But even so I put one of those rechargeable dehumidifiers in there with my rifles. It's one of those with a little window in the front. When it's blue, it's good and dry. When it's pink, it needs a recharge. I generally need to recharge it every 5 days or so.

I was looking at getting one of those heating elements to put inside the safe. Advantage is that I wouldn't need to recharge anything. Disadvantage, I'd have to drill a hole in my safe for power. Still haven't made my mind up if I'm honest.

These are advertised as wardrobe heaters, and are commonly used in Piano's.

I have mine insulated with 50mm kingsman and a heat trace coil taped inside
It keeps it at a constant 19 degrees
No dampness anymore

I have used all these and they all work well. I've since moved the safe so don't use the heater.

For the desiccant gel, I just used a small lunch box, drill 50-60 holes in it and fill it silica gel.
