Yeah, the one trick pony with the great trick was irritating a long time ago. Liverpool were probably the most definitively solid team in Europe last season. Would John not consider that a trick too?

I'd say it's more a case that Eamon is loyal to his mates than anything else. He has the odd different guest on for specialist stuff like John Delaney and Spanish football. Those tend to be the better podcasts.

The United podcast was beyond abysmal. Giles is still pretty good when analysing actual football games but on a podcast like this, they really show how out of touch they are when it comes to today’s game and how clubs have to be run.

There was so much supposition and twisting of facts to suit a narrative.

Giles: “When managers get control, it works. Look at Klopp and Guardiola.”
Dunphy: “But John, Klopp is part of a committee, he doesn’t have full say.”

They come back to it later and Giles reiterates that Klopp and Guardiola call the shots. Dunphy then agrees with him.

The supposition that OGS has nothing whatsoever to do with transfers at United stated as fact. How on earth does Giles know that?

He also throws out stuff that is repetitive and some of which has been proven wrong:

1. “Klopp is a one trick pony with a very good trick.”
2. “Pogba is a social media star.”
3. “Mourinho described Pogba as the complete midfield player.”

It’s really tiresome. Giles hates chairmen because he had a bad experience at West Brom and Leeds with them and thinks managers should have 100% control of transfers. The game isn’t run like that any more and nor should it be particularly with the high turnover rate for managers and the large sums of money involved.

Funnily enough, I’ve stopped listening to the football stuff in the main. It’s the same rhetoric every week.

Very intrigued listening to the housing crisis debate. I must say I’m a millennial in the same bubble as the 2 lads and it strikes massive fear into me. Everything they said resonated so perfectly with my, and the majority of my peers, situations. While not overly agreeing with the booting old people out of their homes to alternative arrangements idea, everything else I just say I whole heartedly agree with and see around me every day

I agree that this is a hugely interesting topic but this was not addressed very well at all in this podcast. Those lads seemed a bit condescending.

Dunphy: "does it scare you, as a millennial?" Guest: "It scares me in a societal sense but doesn't scare me personally, I'm resilient so will find a way through it" - Basically saying he's better than everyone else!!

Then went on about classicism and being judged by your accent as the challenge of our time. With a D4 accent. Showed a lack of independent thought and feels like he's just trotting out popular sound bites he's heard from somewhere else (I have a "regional" accent and while i do think there is prejudice, it really is very minor and very low on the list of things to fix)

My God. Very irritating guests.

You're right, he calls the other contributor (30's) a milennial. However, he did say he feels able to overcome something others will struggle to overcome.

Overall, there was very little value added in that discussion.

I'm not familiar with Maleney, I think he was on the pod before promoting his book but it wasn't a book on property.

At the end of the podcast Deeter mentioned Maleney's podcast but I had to dig it out, anyone ever listen to it?

Listening to episode one now. Overall, it's pretty good. A great overview of the history of home ownership in Ireland. However, sometimes the language changes from stating the facts (what is/was) to more normative language (what should be). In a podcast like dunphys this is fine, we know that it is an opinion from the outset. But when something is presented as a historical overview it is a little troubling. I'd prefer if the value judgements were left to the listener to form.

Edit: Got through a good bit of it. Overall very good and would recommend.

Way too much John Giles on lately, the guy is a legend in Irish football but it wouldn't do the podcast any harm if the had a different guest on for the "profile" episodes.

I personally cant stand Karl Deeter, I dont doubt he is intelligent and makes good points on issues, but I just find his dismissal of the seriousness of problems and issues raised by those on the left, to be infuriating. He always essentially goes down the Varadaker 'get up earlier' type of approach, when things are far more complex and nuanced than that. Saying that he isnt scared is pure hubris and adds nothing to the debate other than to boost his own ego.

I'd agree there is too much Giles but I thought he was suited to the Charlton podcast because he knows Charlton well. His insight on how Jack sees the world was also interesting because it helped explain why Jack didn't want the likes of Brady/Whelan and others playing in their own half.

I thought they should have spoken more about Charlton's reign with Ireland but it was a much better podcast than the United one last week.

I enjoyed his biographical interview but he spoke poorly. He sounds much clearer and more confident now. I really hope he does well, he seems like a good guy.

He was very impressive alright. Particularly his ability to overcome Eamon's desperation to interrupt and speak over him during every answer.

I thought he really came across well. Knowledgeable about the players, passionate about the project and interested and educated about the tactical changes that other countries were doing.

Poor old Eamo was all at sea with the new players and the tactics but I'm glad to see him supporting Kenny.

I really hope this appointment works out - he absolutely sounds like the right man for the role but whether he can get the performances out of the senior players remains to be seen.

So ANOTHER Brexit podcast with yer wan from the road hauliers. I've listened to Eamos podcasts from the start, now when I get a notification of a new podcast, I know its gonna be either Irish football, Man Utd, Brexit or anti President Trump, & Cocaine stories. Full stop!
I'm quickly losing interest in Dunphys podcasts.
Same old **** on repeat imo.

Yeah. He gives out about poor journalism elsewhere yet he can't see the limitations from guests like her. She had one great interview but her specialist perspective has nothing new to add since. I like dunphy but the value he adds is diminishing.

Agree. But the difference is he has something new to discuss each week, whereas a lot of the contributors are talking about the same thing each time...

Tbf to him he is very articulate and balanced with his contributions despite Dunphy's best efforts to load his questions.

I enjoyed the Jack Charlton podcast. Giles is good at these and has plenty of insights. The Man Utd / Pogba podcast was all over the place
