Getting Saffron from Crocus.

    Has anyone ever grown the Crocus Sativus to harvest Saffron in Ireland. Is it possible?

    Ages ago as an experiment, was just too much hassle for the yield to be honest, but was fun using what we did harvest.

    Grows fine but you have to lift the bulbs over winter as they rot unlike normal Crocus.

    Thanks. Seems like a lot of work. I am working toward a situation where everything in my garden has to provide a return in the form of food.
