Question for a friend working in Europe. Can she start a private pension in ireland while she is not resident here ? She is irish. .also can she make lump sum payments into it or does it have to be regular payments every month ? She has a rental property so wants to use this as a write off for tax also if thats possible. She was thinking make one lump sum payment per year if possible other wise regular payments

Does she pay Irish income tax? If not it's probably not a good idea.

Lump sum, or monthly payments are fine.

Rental income isn't pensionable. Tax relief goes against earned income only.

Is this because of the tax rebate ? Can the pension payments not be used against rental taX?

No - it can't be used against rental tax.
