What do you mean by not perfect. If I broke into your home and beat the crap out of you, would you be of the view i was a scumbag, or someone who was not perfect- the latter would seem to me to be minimizing my crimes and would be
very generous of you as a victim.
So state it clearly for the record , do you think his conduct in regards to these matters was shameful? A yes or no answer will suffice.

He deserves credit for, quite properly, highlighting the shambolic "gesture" by Mc Aleese of taking communion at a Protestant service.

Yeah, because that's the sort of big deal that keeps people awake at night.

    Nothing like priorities, eh?

Yep, that basically cancelled out the whole going to massive lengths to cover up clerical child abuse thing......

400 is meagre for the funeral service of a cardinal. It shows how much Ireland has changed in the past 30 years. Unquestioning deference to the clergy and RCC hierarchy is long gone.

I think history will judge him kindly. He was patently a caring and compassionate individual who did, at least, put in place a process whereby clergy who were guilty of sexual crimes could be identified and be convicted and whereby victims of these awful abusers could be heard and properly counselled.
It is a disgrace that not a single member or representative of the government nor of Dail Eireann as a whole was in attendance at his funeral. This was in stark contrast to the funeral services of his predecessors in the position of Archbishop of Dublin most of whom, it could be argued, were complicit in the cover up regarding sexual crimes committed by priests and nuns of the diocese throughout past decades.

But but but but he made a fuss about communion! He's a hugely significant human being! You couldn't make this stuff up!

Sorry, history tends not to judge monsters kindly.

The "monsters" are the likes of Brendan Smyth, Tony Walsh, Sean Fortune, Paul Magennis and the many other perpetrators of vile abuse upon the innocent and vulnerable. Your comment, above, is simply downright stupid!

Yes and many were moved on by others higher up to cover up the abuse, where they continued to abuse again. They are as guilty imo.
