Sounds like carnage out there, the last thing they need is stupid running.

And what the heck is with the running this morning!

Who knows? Surely the emphasis on keeping wickets must have been drummed in this morning? Is the short game format so ingrained that batsmen just behave instinctively to take quick (risky) singles?

I don't think so, between County cricket, Interpros and ICup there's plenty of experience of this sort of cricket out there!

You'd think so but then why start off the morning like that? Looks like we've given up the ghost of a draw now and will just bat ODI style and see if at least, Pakistan can be put in again?

2nd century in the history of Irish test cricket

Alas both are "team" rather than individual efforts!

    :)

Still trailing by about 60 just to avoid an innings defeat, need a good partnership here

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,821 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

Stirling gone now for just 11

145-5 - at least we have the "saviours" of the first innings, KOB and Wilson now in

Hopefully they will make Pakistan bat again - that will be a good enough achievement given the first innings. All the better if they can take it in to a final day

I find it interesting that this thread is fairly quiet when compared to the match thread during WCQs. Is that a result of people being at the game? Or because test cricket is slower? Or there's less interest?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,821 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

Wilson out now, come on we need to make them bat again

Test cricket is slower and it doesn't lead to much momentum in the thread would be my guess. The more posts you have the more it stays on the front page and the more randomers you pick up from there, then if there are more posts people stay and keep posting.

When you're batting from behind or saving a draw....the less news the better:)

179/6 now, no innings defeat which is not to be sniffed for a new side at 7/3 in the first innings.

I've been busy the last few days.

50 for Kevin O'Brien, nice one.

    50 up for KOB.

KOB looks great out there, watching him bat I think Ireland really does belong here

Great for KO'B. However with the new ball coming up next over, it will be interesting to see how long Ireland can hold out... Would have loved to have gone to Malahide today after having a great time on Saturday.

Great stuff from Kevin O'Brien. Fighting hard

26 ahead. We bowled out the West Indies for 25 once. Be grand.

Great to see Kevin put up a decent score. Would that we hadn't lost those cheap wickets early today.

Havent been able to watch as much as I'd like, but great to see todays fightback. Looked like it would be done and dusted today so would be great just to get it to the final day. Always the possibility of the faithful home weather offering us a fighting chance of the draw too you'd think.

Not a great forecast for tomorrow, almost time for the declaration!

Any ideas on how much action we should probably expect to see on the final day? I.e. is it likely to be wrapped up around lunchtime or progress beyond tea. Weather permitting.

Just had to have a little interest on the draw here. Outside chance still, of course, but at 10/1 surely worth a dabble. It actually drifted out a couple of points since i placed the bet on which is mildly perplexing. They're going ok here although still a lot of overs left to be bowled today.

KOB's career test batting average: 54.5 atm

    A lot higher 40 & 70* is a 110 average, higher than Bradman (:

Could still finish tonight, it'll be easier to predict when play ends this evening.

At this stage it doesn't look like much play tomorrow (weather permitting) but the longer Ireland keep batting the longer the game will continue (every run Ireland get means Pakistan need an additional run to win)

The draw price has just about halved in the past 2 minutes. Was beginning to wonder why it wasnt dropping, what I was seeing that seemingly no one else could!! Hopefully they keep their wickets now and see today out!

    Thompson 50

    Well batted Thompson!

Delighted for him. Seemed to be stuck on 46 for an age!

Didn't realise that - I thought the average quoted was per inning, not per test?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,595 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Thompson out 53.

    Great knock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

Hope Kevin gets enough support to get to his century.

To make Pak bat again is a good accomplishment.

Its runs divided by times dismissed. Eg bat 6 times, not out once 200 runs, average would be 40. Not outs boost individual averages, but its a team game

    KOB into the 90s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,517 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

KOB is up to 99* I'm listening at work, should have finished, but waiting to see if he gets the tonne

Major let down. Thought he'd knock one out of the park for the century!

Just messing...unbelievable knock that, another milestone in a remarkable career. A true Irish sporting legend.

What a player he's been this game.

    Next up the 150 lead

Well done Kevin, top stuff, now if we could sneak up to 150 and the weather helped tomorrow.......................................

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭Drifter50

Looks like Tyrone has dropped his anchor, 7 runs off 48 balls, thats what we need, occupation of the crease

5 very important overs to go. I couldn’t make it today but I might have to head down to the ground tomorrow.
