Hes been waiting a while to post in his usual style in fairness, let him have his moment. Utter disgrace we lost to the league leaders away from home, sack them all indeed...

Thought we played pretty well after getting through the first 20/25 minutes maybe, good results elsewhere overall in terms of staying up.

    We'll take it so far

Normal service resumes again last night.

A great 3 points picked up at home against one of the teams we do need to be beating at home. 4 wins in 5 and up to 4th place again, game in hand on the 4 in a row champs and 3 points behind them.

Honestly couldn't be expecting the season to go much better so far, especially considering we have been without our captain and creative spark in midfield for so long. Long is doing a fantastic job with the team.

Poor first half and two goals given up poorly with individual errors but character shone through in the end and comfortably ran out winners, hon the Blues

The Blues are the form team over the past five matches. 12 points is 3 points better than second best. Hopefully it is a sign of organic improvement and not temporary. There was a big delegation over from Fleetwood so hopefully they are of a mind to back progress rather than raid the best players.

When the team went more direct than the side to side stuff there was only one team in it. Also, in the first half, two gilt edge chances were butchered when players went for glory rather than the simple pass. Probably down to being conscious over the watching Charlie Adams & co. I presume Ling put them right on that at half time as they were transformed second half.

    Onwards and upwards hopefully.

On a side note, isn’t it great to see teams time wasting from the off suffering the karma of losing an undeserved lead?

Drogheda defenders were telling the keeper to go down every time he caught the ball and to take his time kicking it out which you could see Amond getting frustrated with. He also wasn't impressed that the referee was telling him to move out of the keepers way when he was kicking the ball out despite standing outside the box. The constant talk from Drogheda defenders was to waste as much time as possible. If a player went down they were told to hold their head. It was good to see it bite them in the arse in the end.

Great win in the end, after the worst 50 mins of ball I've seen played in a long time.. Podge is some player

I think it's an indication of the importance of having a striker who can score goals. They seem to be particularly important in the LOI. Keeping Amond fit and available is probably the difference between getting relegated and challenging for a European qualification spot.

The top three scorers are all over 30, and they're playing for the teams in 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Interesting also that while Waterford have the 3rd and 5th highest scorer in the league, there is nobody in the Top 10 for assists. Darragh Leahy and Connor Parsons are tied in 13th with two assists each.

Brilliant comeback, Amond is an absolute star, your ultimate fox in the box.

First half we were poor in the final third, kept trying silly through passes that would be overhit or intercepted. The patience wasn't there at all. Brilliant by Long to get them going second half, moved the ball faster outside. Pattison who had a poor first half was great second, one brilliant turn that led to the equaliser. Asamoah the same, he's one of the most consistently inconsistent players you'll see, he was great second half, a constant threat.

Credit to both Horton and McDonald who had errors leading to Drogheda goals but both had great games. McDonald ran the show in midfield. Darragh Power is also having a brilliant season.

Had a good laugh at the 2 whingers sitting by me, just moaned and gave out from the first whistle, any mistakes and they moaned. By the end of it they were quiet and it was like they couldn't enjoy it because they loved a moan. Imagine making the effort to go and just moan. Ffs just enjoy this, we're in a great position and something we've dreamed for for ages, players make mistakes we're not watching World cup winners here!

To be fair to the lads at least they turned up.....what has happened to the numbers? would do your head in. Waterford is supposed to be a football city yet they don't back their own team. Same with most sports in the city, they'll turn up when we're winning and give out about them and stay at home when they lose.

Oh hand hats off to the Block E boys, they've been great lately, loved the noise from the old stand last night.

I think there was a respectable crowd there last night. 2,423 is a healthy crowd to be drawing on a Thursday night when the game is live on TV.

The average league attendance in 2023 was 3,037, and that'll be lifted by bigger clubs like Shamrock Rovers who could get 8-10k in for their games.

In addition to the TV impact, a lot of families wouldn't be as keen to come in on a Thursday evening when schools are on, and also a lot of people will be spending time and money following the hurlers at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Boooourns

I find it hard to believe there was 2,423 there last night, loads of empty seats in the new stand and the old one wasn't full either, I wonder if they just included the season ticket holders even if they didn't show up.

The start of the season was brilliant, huge crowds but it's definitely died off. Hopefully the club get the excitement going for the game next week, Bohs will bring a good crowd. Only 1 week if the hurlers left as well 😁 well unless there's a miracle.

Rovers are averaging about 6k a game, Shels, bohs, pats etc. 4k

We are on par with Derry at the minute in terms of average attendance but ours is definitely dropping.

The results, and performances at home stopped the sunshine group coming out I suppose, would always be that way they don't have any actual commitment to the club, supporting the club I mean as evidenced by the attendances when things were bad, and very bad but it is a shame because the people in the club are now really making big efforts to engage with the community, social media, invest in infrastructure etc.

I hope the town gets out more consistently and supports the club, we should have pride in jt

Wouldn't read into it too much.. Lots of games in schoolboy lge were played on Thursday I think which didn't help attendances (crazy decision if true).. also, lots of lads working shifts with work that might not have been able to get swaps they would usually get on Friday.. lots of end of year school presentations were also on Thursday.. all these factors wouldn't help attendance.. I'd imagine there will be a big improvement in the Attendance for Bohs next Friday

regarding attendance nothing to see here as we head into summer months the crowds drop off it’s always being that way , holiday season is upon us .

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,175 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Was more at the Thursday game than had been for the previous (Friday night) home game though. Would imagine your right in that more will come out for the Bohs game, bigger team & the team have had back to back home wins so a bit of buzz to bring back in the less regular heads.

The Renie factor will bring a few extra as well. Also Bohs fans are great, there should be loads of noise on Friday.

What's great about them.. they attacked our supporters coming out of the cup semi final two years ago..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Boooourns

They have a great following. All Dublin clubs have a scummy following in some way, shur didn't we have our own headcases back in the 80s 😂!

Part and parcel of football unfortunately, I saw a few Dundalk lads and our lads going at it after the cup game 2 years ago in the RSC. There will always be dopes.

Be a good crowd by the looks of it, club saying stand tickets nearly gone and terrace tickets available.

Great win last night and up in 4th now with games in hand on the top 3 teams. Good atmosphere there too. Padraig Amond has been some signing. He scores the goals but also works so hard. Tough game away to Derry on Monday but on current form we should not fear them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Boooourns

    Useless, Long out.

That other head the ball on here will be quiet for a bit at least. Until the next slip up obviously...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Boooourns

They have me on tenterhooks , surely now is the time we get a positive post. Everybody is enjoying this brilliant run they're on....or are they....

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,175 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Monday be a very tough one, I don't expect anything there. In seriousness the squad is starting to get a bit stretched in terms of injuries, Baggley likely out till August, Asamoah gone for 6 weeks, Macadam back to Fleetwood with an injury, I'm missing someone too I'm sure 🤔 we are in a brilliant position but the target hasn't changed for me, just survive

100% it's all about staying up this season anything else is a bonus. The job Keith Long is doing is just brilliant to watch though, he's easily one of the best in the league, backing him in the next transfer window could push us in even further which is really exciting.

Shows a trip to Derry is so hard

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Boooourns

Well the good news from today is we only have to play Derry one more time. They have our number bigtime, although they do have loads of quality in that team.

Our squad looks a bit thin with a few injuries.

Yeah true, although I saw McEleney was stretchered off , he would be a massive loss, brilliant player on his day.

Hopefully someone wins it rather than Rovers.

Not what a lot of teams have been saying this season.

we are generally quite poor at home, often so predictable and ponderous. But we seem to have your number, you never figure at all when you visit.

Not a chance. Due to Higgins, no other reason because we have the squad.
