    Great result

Massive win tonight sadly didnt make the game and was relying on sofascore. Panic when Bohs went 1-0 up but we fought back to go 2-1 up at HT and then score an other important goal in the 2nd half to win 3-1

A top 4 finish guaranteed now. Atm were level with Rovers but they face St Pats away next Friday while we hopefully play a Dundalk B side at home. 2 draws (a win for us or St Pats beat Rovers), would do nicely going into the Rovers game In 2 weeks. Surely it will be on RTE/Eir if it's a 3rd place playoff ??

Monday night is huge for Waterford as a cork win will mean were in Europe regardless of If we finish 3rd/4th. Same if Dundalk win the cup

Obv good for bohs if they win the cup but it will be sickening for us if we finish 4th. Roll on Monday night Hopefully the supporters club will have a night in Norrises for it. I'd say there is some noise on the bus back from Dublin now

Great result, surprised they won so convincingly since bohs were in form, be great to hear from anyone there on how match went.
We welcome the champions next week, looking forward to it, hopefully they're still hungover

It was a decent performance from both, Bohs had 2 or 3 chances that they didn't finish well. Waterford played well in the midfield but there was 3 atrocious mistakes for the goals. Hunt looks like he did the hammy, so dont expect to see him again this season id say.

Bohs had the kids out tonight (some of them very promising) as they're obviously concentrating on the cup.

It's a couple of years since I was in Dalymount last - the place is really falling apart.

Yeah it is a pity about Dalymount and given its history in Irish football it should be redeveloped to a better standard. The FAI dont give a toss about domestic football. They should be focusing on youth, faciltites and the likes as these things can lead to more sucess in Europe. Surely someone in the FAI can see success of our domestic teams in Europe raises the profile of football in this country which can mean more money to the clubs and survival of our teams.

Dalymount is going under a huge redevelopment within the next few years. Tolka Park is being knocked down and Shells will play in Dalymount. At least that’s their plan as of right now. Wouldn’t be surprised if Shels try get out of moving to Dalymount

Is that definitely happening tho??? How great would it be if LOI clubs had nice modern stadiums. It would help with the image of the league.

Dublin City Council own both grounds now and the plan is to rebuild Dalymount and both clubs to play there.

I'm not sure why nothing has started yet.

Yeah i had a look earlier. It seems they did not expect the process to be as difficult as they have so far found it and also from what i read the government havent released the funds yet.

The original plan was for Bohs to move out of dalymount at the end of this season, ground share with shels in tolka for 2 years and then both of them move into a redeveloped 10,000 all seater stadium. That was supposed to happen by 2020 in time for the euro games.

Unsurprisingly for stadium developments in Ireland, thats changed.

It's now going to be 2022 not 2020 before its ready.
The capacity has been cut by 2000 - it'll now be an 8k all seater.

Based on the likes of Tallaght stadium (1st mentioned as a 10,000 seater in 1996) and only got its 3rd stand recently I expect something like:
Bohs and possibly Shels (if they survive or don't decide on going back to Ringsend) move into a ground with one 3,500 seater stand sometime in the mid 2020s.

Here's a herald article for anyone that's interested:

Fantastic achievement for the Blues, qualifying for Europe in first season back in Premier division, who'd have predicted this a few years ago...

Absolutely delighted, cant wait for European games next summer!

Perhaps a stupid question but do you know if finishing 3rd has any effect on round placement? Im guessing giving co efficients it wont.

Would there be any issues regarding the RSC for euro games?

Yeah i wondered that myself. They have played under 21s (international) there before so you would think it would be ok. Dont know tho if club competitions are stricter regarding grounds tho. Dundalk werent allowed play at Oriel so maybe the RSC wont be available either.

Maybe, just maaaaaaybe, they might be able to have it at a redeveloped Walsh Park. Highly doubtful but would be worth a few pound to WFC and Waterford GAA.

Well done lads. To answer some questions : co efficient determines if seeded or not. As Waterford have no coefficient at all the national teams co efficient counts. Unfortunately Ireland have been sh*te for sone years now so Waterford will be unseeded. After that it’s the luck of the draw. RSC definately good enough for the first few rounds, after that it gets stricter. But first things first.

Co efficients here. Ireland are 1490 so that’s Waterford’s co efficient

Doubt it. UEFA have standards clubs must adhere to. :D

The RSC is in the same category as stadium as Tallaght. That’s why the U21 games are in both those grounds. Not only will the RSC be grand for Europe but In the case we got to the group stages of the Europa the RSC with a few adjustments (temporary seating) would also be eligible.

Btw not saying we will qualify for the group stages before anyone makes a comment, just showing how good and valuable the RSC actually is to us.

    We’re going nowhere

Absolutely fantastic, this is a fantastic achievement by everybody involved in the club. The stadium and match day setup down there is a credit to the club it feels so professional. I am looking forward to the games down there.

hopefully it will result in a few extra season ticket holders next season.
in regards to season tickets, this needs to be better managed. the unassigned and assigned seat package at the start of the season was a bit of a joke. the minimal you should receive in buying your season ticket is an assigned seat and not pay extra for it. have one price next season and have an online facility to select your seat.

What sort of prize money is available before a ball is kicked? Isn't it in the six figure range?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,172 ✭✭✭hardybuck

Apparently Waterford would need special dispensation from UEFA as when Power took over he formed a new company in 2016, and to compete in Europe a club must be at least three years old.

Derry were prevented from playing in Europe a few years ago for this reason, but also because they had debts that weren't cleared.

Hopefully Delaney or the politicians will get us over the line regards this

Afaik Power cleared all our debts when he took over

Delaney was in situ when it happened to Derry. You wouldn't know who might crawl out of the woodwork looking for money if they thought there might be some chance of a deal.
