Also having to re-arrange games to unsuitable nights and the associated loss of revenue. Don't be surprised if the club have to spend a few grand bringing the RSC up to the UEFA delegates liking or reducing capacity. Europe is not a blank cheque the associated costs eat a lot into the prize money.

Doesn't the RSC already have a high standard of licence which allows them to play the U21 internationals?

A lot of this is down to the individual delegate. Cork City had to change the goal posts for a European game at short notice about 10 years ago or else the game would not have gone ahead. Also Dundalk had to change the advertising boards in the Aviva for the Legia tie as they didn't meet a Europa League sizing measurement.

Disappointed to see Derek Daly go, he was my player of the year when we were in the first division, didn't really see him enough last season unfortunately, might have been injured or something.

people have this myth that European Football brings in the big bucks. it actually doesn't bring that much in at all if you don't get past the first round.
say for example we get a team in Kazakhstan, we would have to charter a plane and you won't get much change out of 120-150k cost. Lee Power is no fool and he has looked at all this.

also seems fletch is out the gap also. well known that himself and Rennie don't see eye to eye and is heading Lee side. Players who were on 500-700 last season have been offered 200-300 this season to remain full time. r:eek:

Fletch and Rennie don’t get on? is that why Rennie and Fletch follow each other every where over the past decade ? Pats/Cork/Waterford?? Don’t be bringing pub talk on here I would suggest!

In sure Lee Power knew all of this before he bought the club so he would of costed for it. Also the City Council will pay toward any costs in upgrading the ground. They know money has to be spent in order to be sucessful and i think they will do what they have to do. Of course they wont keep ploughing money in so hopefully the team can progess through the rounds.

Is the only place to buy the new Waterford jersey is in that clubshop in the RSC? Anyone know what time they open, if they do. Drove past around 2.30 today, and both gates locked.

Lynch & Kouogun both signed today.

2 very good signings. Much better than the players that left in the same position.

    According too https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019–20_UEFA_Europa_League

Draw for the first qualifying round of the Europa League 2019/20 takes place on Weds 19th June 2019 with the first leg been played the week of the 11th July with I presume the 2nd leg the week of 18th July 2019. Second qualifying first leg will be played on the week of 25th July

Looking at our league fixtures we play St Pats at home on the 5th July and then have a gap til 19th July. So I imagine dates may be wrong on that wiki page for Euro games

Looking back now it's pretty exciting for the coming season too see Euro football back in Waterford. Thanks Cork and Dundalk ha

Would anyone have an estimate of the running costs for a club like Waterford? Are you looking at €15k a week in wages and expenses?

Are any of these clubs financially viable if they aren't qualifying for Europe or selling lads overseas?

Cork supporters are happy he is gone so i wouldn't be getting your hopes up that we are getting a Delaney of a few years ago. Apparently he wasnt exactly busting a gut for them and of course anyone who follows LOI seen he made some serious errors in the final run up for City.

A good player and i hope he does well but id be wary of us getting our hopes up over a player nearing his 40s.

How much of a pay off is Roddy Collins looking for

I dont know the ins and outs of their finances but i know from talking to someone who is invloved a long time that the finances have been pulled back alot. How much i dont know. Id guess European progress is a massive goal as the money is needed.

Regarding a clubs viability, we have seen over the years that LOI clubs struggle without consistent income and many have gone to the wall. The FAI are a big problem (not the only problem) The game here is not advertised, funded, marketed as it should be, clubs will continue to fold. Limerick is in serious trouble....again. Waterford almost went and imo is still not immune to it happening.

Dundalk have big backers behind them who have plans for stadiums etc but at any moment they could pull out. Like any investment they need to see some sort of return and fair play to Dundalk they do reasonably well in Europe (great to get to the group stage) so for now their future looks bright. If other clubs were as lucky then the league would be secure. Unfortunately the FAI dont seem to be doing anything to guide or help clubs achieve what Dundalk have.

Lee Power saved our club, i hope everyone from players to management grasp this chance to secure the future. Progress in Europe and i feel Waterford FC will continue on for another few years.

Roddy says he had a year left on contract when he left and did not get paid anything. He is looking for compensation and has taken it to UEFA apparently. Basically he worked for the club when it was Waterford United, club now Waterford fc, but UEFA have the 3 year rule regarding debt for clubs competing in Europe so he sees the opportunity to get cash as the club have to go forward as the same entity or else can't compete in Europe.

At least that is my understanding of the situation. It's said locally that he had no contract in reality and is trying to take advantage of the situation. Either way whatever popularity he had left in Waterford is gone now.

Was he ever popular in Waterford or even any club he ever managed????? An absolute chancer if ever there was one.

Well I think there was still a minority that felt he did an ok job in very difficult situation and wasn't the worst fella. Vast majority didn't like him prior to this issue but I doubt anyone following the blues will have any time for him now.

I agree he is a chancer said he'd never 'do a Stephen Henderson ' on the club apparently, and here he is with the hand out again

Roddy has left alot of clubs on a sour note. It was a crazy decision by the club in the first place. To me it showed the mentality of those in charge.

According to the article in the Star he won a case with an employment tribunal to say he is due money described as a 5 figure sum. If he didn't have a contract I doubt he'd have won the case. If we have to pay him off to avoid an issue with a UEFA licence we should do it because it would cost less than being denied a place in Europe. It does seem opportunistic that he has done this now especially as he apparently said he would not look for money. He knows now the club has money even if it's a different set up than before when he was working here.

I suppose it depends on what can be proved. When Lee Power bought the club and he agreed to pay its debts then i guess he may get stung with having to pay Roddy It was madness of the previous owner/staff to bring him in. Just one of many mistakes in the running of the club which got us into such a mess in the firstplace.

    Dean O’Halloran re-signs.

Kenny Browne is pictured in training so hopefully he will be announced soon.

Jimmy Keohane is still heavily rumoured by Cork and Waterford fans but I’m not sure how much substance there is to it.

It’s also been put up on Facebook by a club photographer that a 6’7 French goalkeeper is on the way.

The new few days are shaping up to be interesting regardless.

O'Halloran is a good squad player and good for PR, but is very limited imo.

I agree, but that’s all we need him to be I guess. I’m slightly suprised he’s returned but maybe he can kick on.

The Blues Supporters Club website is up and running with more content to be added shortly. Most importantly, the 2019 membership form is available and payment can be made through the website. It’s just €10 to join either the adult section or the Junior Blues (under 14s).

Just follow the simple steps show here. Click in the top right hand corner of the home page, select Become a Member and follow the steps on the membership form. If there are any issues, please let us know.

There will also be a launch night for the BSC which will be announced very shortly. Membership forms will also be available there and we hope to sign as many of you as possible up that night. Forms will also be available at each preseason friendly and in the club shop.

Everybody who signs up by the end of January will go into a draw for top scorer Courtney Duffus’ framed jersey. Remember, the BSC has made a serious commitment to partner the Waterford FC Academy again this year so all funds raised through membership will help towards developing both the club and our talented, young, local players.

Please check out the website at www.waterfordbsc.ie
