Yea West Ham away another team Liverpool have struggled against in the past few seasons.

Has no bearing on next game. We are capable of going there and getting a win like we have in the last 3 away games.

People are all doom and gloom but in last 5 games we have we have won 3, drew 1 and lost 1.

It's not as bad as people are making out.

I reckon we'll fall over the line on the last day. I'd say we don't deserve to, but if you look at what's chasing us you could hardly say they'd deserve it either. The premier league is piss poor at the moment. With brexit on the way, you'd have to really worry about how far adrift of Spain/Germany they'll be in 5 years time.

Just heard Coutinho is a more efficient Joe Cole.

Southampton will probably attack Arsenal all gung ho on Wednesday night and get hammered now.

Still lots of permutations for this season. 3rd will be a big struggle now though unfortunately.

Last post in the match thread.

I don't think there's anything I could do to him he hasn't already done to himself.

Well looks we get another chance to drag ourselves over the line next week.

We'll need a draw to make it, ony to go 1-0 down i nthe first two minutes. We'll then go 88 minutes without an attempt on goal before the keeper pulls of the save of the century. From the corner, Lovern will hit the bar, Boro will break up the other end and make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, United will play out a 1-1 draw so we make with 71 points to their 69.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Glad arsenal won, I do think they will drop points a in their away games, always nice to see Utd lose, it's been a while because they were concentrating on the 1-1

The greatest non losing streak in modern football is over.

So we have gained a point now instead of losing two.

Arsenal will drop points too as they have 4 more games over next two weeks so I'm sure we'll get the top 4.

Sunderland's streak of 1 draw a while back was far more impressive to me. They never should've let go of Moyes.

They didn't want it to be impressive anyway.

A draw and a win and we are Top4 I reckon, 74 pts will get 4th.

We could lose our last two and it won't matter the way results are going.

Mourinho's United are the team which keep on giving and giving................ to everyone above them in the CL places :D

Joe Cole was a quality player for a while, to be fair. If Coutinho ends up with his trophy haul, he'll be doing immensely well.

56 England CAPS is a very good haul, especially in a midfield with options such as Beckham Lamps Gerrard and Scholes.

Hopefully arsenal drop points to one of stoke or southampton or both even would be fantastic

100%, isn't that part of the roller coaster enjoyment of being a Liverpool fan these days?

I am just about old enough to remember Liverpool's golden era of Domestic and European trophy hauls. My earliest memory being the European Cup final in Rome in 1977 soon after which Craig Johnston, Ronnie Whelan and eventually John Barnes became my hero's.

    Winning everything was boring ;)

    I miss being bored :o

A Brazilian being more efficient than the English Messi that was better than the real Messi according to Gerrard that's quite a compliment to Coutinho really.:D

It is a shame we very likely won't get 3rd.

Knowing our luck we will get Sevilla or another very good side & get knocked out. But hopefully if we get 4th we can get some good signings.

Wouldn't happen as we would be on same side of the draw as the likes of Sevilla. Could get Celtic though

Sure? Isn't it there a question mark whether we'd even be seeded?

Europa league final last year, CL qualification two years ago, I'd be surprised if we weren't seeded. Not sure though

All league winners are seeded as No 1 these days regardless of any other factor like it being a mickey mouse division I think

Celtic join Dundalk in the same qualifying round, only the league winners from UEFA's top 7 leagues are seeded in the group stage

We are currently ranked 34th club in Europe I think, but yes celtic start at an earlier qualifier stage if we do get fourth

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Well that's something I suppose. I keep looking at the table and despite it looking alright at a glance so shoddy is Liverpool's game it's simply impossible to have any confidence.

    3. Liverpool 36 20 10 6 71:42 70

    4. Manchester City 35 20 9 6 70:37 69

    5. Manchester United 35 17 14 4 51:27 65

    6. Arsenal 34 19 6 9 66:42 63

Celtic will be in the Champions route, English 4th place will be in the league route, may be in the same pot depending on teams qualifying

Our fullbacks are a massive problem. If you have no width, it makes breaking teams down a hundred times harder.

    It's not rocket science.

Milner, I can forgive, as he's not a LB. But Clyne? A shambles in attack. That area of his game has actually regressed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

We'll know what we have to do by the time we play West Ham next Sunday. If Arsenal win their two away games during the week then West Ham is a must win because Arsenal will take all 6 points from Sunderland and Everton at home.

I really think TAA should be getting some time instead of Clyne, Klopp seems really slow to make any sort of changes though.

We are on 70 points with two games to go we have only gotten 70 points plus 7 times before in the PL era.

If people can't see the improvement and rebuilding we are doing with probably the smallest and weakest squad of the top 6 teams then you never will I guess.

3 transfer windows in, who's fault is it we've a weak squad?

Overall, it has been a good season. We need to improve in the summer though.

At least 3 new starters needed.

We see it but we also see how the improvement has ceased since the end of 2016 - 2.25PP is now 1.6 PPG and the goals have started drying up somewhat. The small squad is down to Klopp obviously - January was screaming for two players.

Clyne is a real problem in a side that is lacking width bar Mane, he offers nothing as an outlet so everything filters back inside. Those teams that know they are there for the point (or a smash and grab) simply sit across the width of the box at which point either it's a moment of magic or it's points lost. Klopp must address this issue in the summer and I'm sure he will as it happens but I'm not sure it'll be from FB - more likely to be another pace attacker.

As mentioned above TAA needs to be fully integrated as Clynes shadow next season, he has pace and a fantastic early cross on him.

Playing Can and Lucas made no sense either, surely Grujic should have been the first half pick with Can as the anchor and then Lallana replacing him at HT. Origi has had a bit of 'mare recently but he keeps getting picked to play front and centre when he needs to be in one of the channels.

We could get an attacking fullback in.

He will cost 20m and probably won't be able to defend.

It might be easier to get Clyne to practice his crossing.

Clyne always goes and shows wide so I guess what you are getting at is his inability to. Beat a man or put a good ball in.

He is quite quick so I'm surprised he doesn't get more joy just Kevin Kilbaning it but there is rarely end product.

I've six or seven signings I'd like to see before we worry about replacing one of our only two semi reliable defenders though.

Does anyone really believe that, even if we qualify for the CL, there'll be a major overhaul of the squad in the summer. I think we'll manage to qualify and still have a disaster of a transfer window.

only one summer though. there wasnt a great deal of better players available in the last winter window. seriously lads its hard to get someone in january (yeah...yeah....i know coutinho, thats not always going to happen.) so im happy, so close with a threadbare squad. now this summer? watch would happen. glory days beckon, mark my words.

A major overhaul isn't needed, what's required is deepening the squad. I'm sure Klopp will get a striker, a wide attacker (maybe two), a dedicated cm and a left fb.

Our opponents have had the same 3 transfer windows.

I'd gripe about the rate of progress of the squad to a degree but Klopps sigings in the summer have been effective and we are progressing.

If we take a similar leap forward next season as we did last and also juggle the CL (the domestic cups can **** off next season) then you couldn't possibly be too disappointed.

The issue next season is that I can see it being at least as competetive if not more.

I can't see Chelsea maintaining this standard, never mind surpassing it, but I'd expect massive improvements from City and Utd.

We could have the same level of progress next season and still only have a not-really title challenge like Spurs.

The upsides is that I can't see Spurs getting much better because I don't see where they're going to get the world class players to improve on the already very good ones, and Arsenal do seem to have finally been broken, whether or not Wenger stays.
