I just don't get the whole Lucas thing, he is happy to be a squad player and we need a big squad next year.

How do you know that? Maybe he's a bit tired being a bench warmer and recognises if he wants to get some regular football he needs to move now before it's too late. I very much doubt the club have told him he has to go. They may have said to him he is free to go if he wants to but if he wants to stay I'd say there would be a place for him in the squad.
If we fail to qualify for CL do we end up in EL ??

    Yes.

You mean, if we lose in the qualifying round? Yes - we go into the groups stages of the Europa League.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Ah I'm sure he's as happy as the rest of us right now! It's strange finishing the season on a high after throwing away the league, losing 6-1 to Stoke, and losing the Europa League final in the past few years :p

It's the third time since the 2012/13 season that a team with over 70 points didn't make the top 4 - Great to see Everton's attempt to shaft us on the last day of the season go awry.

76 points! Before the season began I said that I'd be happy if we reached 70 points but thought we needed to reach 75 to have a chance of beating Arsenal to the top 4. Absolutely delighted that we made it in the end.

So for two positions that'll be 5 seniors and Grujic and whatever other children are floating about in reserve. Maybe even Lallana in a pinch.

If we're looking for depth I'd rather it's in the attacking end.
That spot furthest forward can be filled be pretty much any of the attacking mids and probably any new ones that come in.

So overall, there'll be a dozen lads for the 3 spots. Plenty IMO.

Yeah, but none who are actually specialist DM's to cover the space when our fullbacks have bombed off up the field. Henderson and Can can do it to an extent, but neither are top level quality at it... neither seems like they have the instinct to be where they should, and instead function by workrate.

I'm presuming that we'll address that though, since it's been such a glaring issue in pretty much every game we lost against the bad teams.

Anyway, absolutely delighted today. Exactly hit my target for the season of 2ppg, so I can ask no more of 'em. Took some character to drag ourselves over the line over the past month too, considering the form and issues we've had. \

Pool's last 7 games - Won 5, drew 1, lost 1. They deserve CL football for that.

I think we will see significant investment this summer and I hope that Klopp gets who he wants and doesn't have to compromise.

Who knows what restraints he was under last summer financially with the new stand being built.

This summer there [should] be increased revenue from champs league, the new stand being a revenue generator and not just a liability off the books, and the new TV money.

I'm really hoping/expecting we go to the next level now. Klopp has done wonders so far considering the net spend.

But no excuses from now on. We are at the big boys table again. No excuses losing to teams low down the table and we can't complain about a thin squad. We have the money and the attraction of all the above to have a great squad next season.

    Our year. :D

Liverpool will bank nearly 150 million from the PL this season, add in the group stage income of about 50m and it's clear to see that spending a good sum to make sure of qualification is perfectly feasible (not even mentioned the fortune we'll get for Moreno and Sturridge!)

MOTD kicking off now. Don't know when I actually last watched it rather than caught segments/highlights of it the next day.

Might as well for the day that's in it!

Finishing in the top 4 is great.

But the squad needs new players for next season.

Klopp and the transfer board need to get the right players in.

Remember the last time Liverpool got in the Champions League, the transfer board got Ballotelli and Lambert in.

    Both were below average players.

Could'nt watch the game today due to rescuing a local corcodile stuck up in a tree(again), Just caught up now on the last 10 pages or so, big relief really.

I forget which poster it was but someone mentioned that our main problems lie in the full back positions and they are spot on, the textbook way to break down a team that parks the bus is to spread them wide and out of position and our full backs don't offer that option, I like Clyne, as a defensive FB i'd have him as one of if not the best in the league, but he offers very little going forward and that's compounded with Milner playing on the left being a right footed player.

If rescuing a crocodile from a tree is more important than watching a Liverpool match, then you're not a proper or real Liverpool fan..........

Watching Liverpool qualify for the Champions League is far more important than rescuing some Cork langer who got pissed and stuck up a tree.....

Our biggest game since Chelsea in 2014 and you're watching hurling?

What's being Irish go to do with it?

Game was not that much of a formality if you had seen it.

Your tone came across quite demanding in my opinion.

If you're watching hurling over Liverpool today makes you less of a Liverpool fan than those who watched the game.

Only catching up now but this **** stinks.

I'm a massive Liverpool fan and have been all my life. But I went to a hurling
Match today to watch some live sport that matters to me over watching some sport that matters to me on tv.
That doesn't make me a lesser fan of Liverpool than those whi went, to the match, watch s on tv or illegally streamed.

He cannot be a regular next season.

He has improved but he is not good enough for a top 6 PL team.

That was funny, Jose goes into room for post match press conference and there is only 3 people there and not one of them had a question.
    No one cares Jose.

Just caught highlights on MOTD. Holy moly - how lucky were we with the Boro penalty shout?!! Should have been a peno and a red card for Lovren.

Need to upgrade on Lovren for next season.

    Well that's what happened!

    How it was on MOTD
He walked in sat down and not one of the 3 people in room had a question , person with Jose asked twice, ''any questions, no one had a question'' one reported looked over his shoulder in a '' are you talking to me motion''
Jose just got up and left.

He basically arranged it so that the journos would all still be watching the players lap of honour and he went to the press conference before they did.

    Petulant child.

    Pity they'll beat Ajax.

Of course it makes you less of a fan

If you choose to watch something else instead of Liverpool it means you don't mind missing Liverpool.

I do mind. A lot do mind.

Therefore we are more obsessed with Liverpool than you and you are not as big a fan.

I personally would never miss a game. Even when I'm working I haven't on sky+ and ignore all sport talk until I watch it alone so the experience isn't compromised.

It's not just a team on TV to me. It's Liverpool!!!

You sure it's not the other way around? We've finished above them 4 seasons running. Before that they had 2 seasons in a row above us and the season before that (7 back) we were above them.

    We're actually even now. He won 2 at €50, I won 1 @ €100

Plus, I have more faith in my club than him, so I win overall :)

Just to divert everyone's attention away from the great "Hurling Vs Liverpool" debate I'm going to put my economics hat on and correct the above by saying that technically your Evertonian friend is actually slightly ahead. €100 winnings collected in two installments of €50, one 24 months ago and one 12 months ago is worth more than €100 collected now.

For any communists or SOS members here please research "the time value of money" :-)

Note: I anticipate the conversation here in the coming weeks will veer heavily into economic theory as the tin hat conspiracy theory brigade in time honoured fashion start complaining that Klopps summer signings are proof FSG are not backing him in the transfer market and the fact he is saying the opposite just means he's happy to take the money and be a "yes" man blah blah blah.

Happy Monday guys, we're in the big boys league!!
