Have been looking at the Renault Zoe or the Nissan Leaf as a replacement car for my wife, and we obviously love the idea of recharging the car atnight while we sleep - cool :)

So why not charge an Electric Motorcycle ?

    Batteries too heavy maybe?

I'd think you'd have trouble getting the loud can brigade to buy something silent.

When I say silent, I mean relatively. I've just looked it up and it sounds like my washing machine on spin that's going right now.

The batteries do weigh a ton, I've seen electric superbikes in motorcycle news that weigh over 300kg. I might be wrong in saying this but unlike with cars there hasn't been a big manufacturer to release one yet. Its specialist companies making them.

Have a look at this, it's a Wexford company.

And here is their take on a racing sport bike.

I'm not sure if they are available yet though.

There are a few making decent power but tend to be dirt bikes at present due to weight/range I guess.

Lots of leccy bikes out on the market.

NEC show had lots of them there.

Joe Duffy also have lecccy bikes for sale.

If you want to see leccy bikes in action then go onto youtube and look at the TT Zero race with the likes of the Mugen bikes and John McGuinness racing them.

They are bloody fast,120mph laps allready.

Was over there in 2012 watching them at Sulby Straight - As quiet as they are, they can certainly shift!
Its a while off seeing many production bikes on the road, but it will be welcome. The infrastructure for the car charging is all over the place here - charging points showing working when they are offline, people parking in them and not giving a sh1t leaving people sat waiting till the bay becomes empty. Hopefully there will be some on the road here in the next few years.

I think EM's are a great idea. The current roar of a motorbike does nothing for me, noise pollution in an already obscenely noisy society.

Take up less space than private cars. Electric bicycles seem to be increasing in numbers. Surely the E-motorbikes can't be far off?

Eh we are talking about motorbikes,as in electric motorbikes,They are allready on sale.Have been for a while now.

And speaking as both a car driver, cyclist and a motorbiker.......Id rather be heard and seen on a motorbike when it comes to the amount of idiotic blind car and bus drivers currently on the roads.

The guy who owns this company (Marty Mannering) was running an electric motorbike a few years ago - in fact there was a report in the Examiner about the fact that his employer wouldn't lket him recharge it: http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/council-employee-not-allowed-charge-electric-bike-115714.html maybe he he could source you one, if you wanted it.

Disclaimer - I've got no connection with the company, but I bought an e-bike from them 4 years ago - it's great!

I was in Shanghai a year ago, there are millions of electric scooters and bike there.
Charge points everywhere, and the Cargo scooters are unbelievably practical where they can carry huge amounts of stuff around.
My brother has a couple of the scooters and they are fast enough in city traffic.
One night after the RWC was on we had two scooters 3up around the streets at 2am to get to the next venue no problem for them to move us around.
