    Hi,

Looking for some opinions on this,

I am in the middle of changing out our lights to energy efficient ones

We have 3 Bathrooms with 12v Halogen's in them 15 bulbs in total.

Am I mad to go and remove the transformer and repalce the connectors with GU10 connectors

From my understanding the transformer takes in 240v and pops out 12v would this use much energy

The fittings are a euro or so each and my time is free is the savings worth it in day to day use?

If you are going 20w halogen to 3w Led.
    1KWH / 1unit saving for every 4 hours all x15 are on.
You would know the average of lights on so work your payback from there.
0.25units saving for all x15 on per hour.
Transformers losses negligable for this exercise.

They'll stay as they are so.

    Thanks for the reply

You should also take into account the probability that LED bulbs are less likely to blow and should have a longer lifespan than halogen ones . If you find yourself replacing halogen bulbs a lot then moving to LED can be a good idea.

No your not mad, but make sure you stick with led lights as the light output from the 230v halogen is dirt compared to the 12v.

Yeah I think i'll go LED to be honest the light off them is amazing and the life time of them will make it very good

Will be handy to only keep one type of bulb "in stock" so to speak

STOP its madness we've also 4 of the old 2d waterproof fittings theyve been swapped for LED equivalent

The washing machine , Dryer and Dishwasher all gave up in the last year we we're paying a fixed amount every month on the bill it was 130 theyre giving us 40 euro back a month on the 130 we never changed it

We've outside sensor lights on halogen at the minute theyre next

The joys of living in the sticks!

Aldi have 5W GU10 LEDs in stock at the moment, 10 for €12.99
They seem excellent, far greater light output than my old 9W CFL GU10s.
Quoted output is 360lm which is a very respectable 72lm/W
