    Inside a high wattage (would be 200W or so) 12V lighting power supply unit

    What is this substance surrounding the circuitry in attached picture ?

    obviously originally poured on in liquid form but now 'hard as rock'

    Epoxy resin or potting compound. Some say it's for IP rating others say it's to make it non-serviceable.

    Looks tiny for 200W, can you post a link outtov interest?

    this appears to be it, with specs (rated for 100 to 200W output):

    It was being used for 3 x 50W Halogen =150W

    Ah dimmable transformer not SMPS, nevermind lost all interest.
    Thanks for the link though, much appreciated...just doesn't suit my porpoises.
