    What im amazed about

If I was to pay €5 extra a month it would have cost me an extra €80 over the 16 month I had left.

Due to their price rise and the greatest Bargain Alert ( Thanks OP ) I have now saved €960 by cancelling

I don't understand why they didn't just hold off on the increase and let people's contracts expire as normal and then raise the price when people were re-signing their contracts. Maybe their billing software wouldn't allow them to do that but it's going to cost them money in the short-term that's for sure.

Why not just go on a 30 day rolling contract so you can cancel anytime ?

It will still cost 30 euros

That's Sim only isn't it? Doesn't involve the phone?

I'm about halfway through a 24 month contract. In an unfortunately timed accident I seriously damaged my phone yesterday. If I cancel with 3 bill pay and move to prepay sim only will I also void my insurance?

Extremely fortunate timing i would say.

They're simply not changing the price for those who transferred from O2. Roaming effect or not. As long as they don't change our price, they don't break our contracts.
I no like too but that's just the way of it.

What's stopping someone 2/3 months into a subsidised phone contract cancelling and getting the phone for the upfront cost + 3 months sub ?

Yeah, mine is an S5, I was counting down the days almost to my upgrade in August! So I think I'll go for the cheaper plan and go 12 month and get a new phone.

My wife just upgraded 3 weeks ago and cancelled her contract this morning, thanks very much OP!

Not unlocked immediately, so will have to wait for it to be processed like yourself.

Yep. You can cancel now and upgrade now
    Check your My 3 account

In my old contract of €55 a month I would have another 16 month left

Now it shows im out of contract and also I can upgrade again.

    Just looked at the competition.

Is there any (in hindsight)

I was on their flex max (ultimate plan) it was €55 pm, which covered basically everything unlimited.

That's what I thought! But had no joy when I spoke to the Three rep. I thought that when I renewed my old O2 contract with Three - it was a NEW contract, but it seems that Three are treating it as a rollover.

If anyone has any luck with getting out of this contract, please do share!;);)

Yep. You can cancel now and upgrade now

I checked the My3 page and the dates hadn't changed for me, but with this whole issue I think all dates are out the window!

Nothing, I'm 5 months into my 18 month contract and did exactly that this morning. There are people who posted earlier that are 1 month into their contract and have cancelled.

Nothing, but three are hoping they will move to the 30 day contract and then at some point sign up again.

I got an early upgrade less than a week ago but I'm not taking any chances just yet about the 14 day cooling off period.

I also get a 25% discount so I hope I can keep that.

I'm going to prepay for the moment from bill pay, just to see what the best options are.

Virgins Sim only plan at 25euro per month is looking the best currently.

Do you need to get a new Three Prepay sim card or can they simply convert your account to Prepay while keep existing SIM ?

Virgin still have crippling bulk SMS issues meaning you can't use 2 factor authentication for things, don't get alerts from some banks etc etc.

That's the business - cheers OP! Stayed with Three but moved to sim only Unlimited Flex Max.

Anyone know if this affects the Mini Flex 300 plan? The one without data, just calls and text.
Tried to talk to an foreign guy on chat, but he kept wanting me to upgrade my plan. Thanks!

I only signed for a new 2 year contract at the end of January and cancelled mine and kept the phone with no issues whatsoever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,990 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Wayhay cheap phone. Always wanted to move to PrePay as it's much handier for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

I asked for the unlock code and was told I'd have to call customer care for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,769 ✭✭✭4Ad

Thanks whoever started this. Just moved hassle free to a 30 day rolling contract, unlimited data for 30 euros and I only changed to a new phone at the end of January..all I have to do is change the SIM over when it arrives..

I tried cancelling today but was told unless I get a letter stating the changes to my plan I won't be affected

I quite like 3 and have never had a coverage problem so decided to stay.
They offered me a month free to apologise for the price increase!!

Am with ya! You probably have the same plan as me.....a 'rollover' from an old O2 plan.

Will def be shopping around next time (tears of pain!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,087 ✭✭✭BeepBeep67

Thanks for the heads up on this, moved my 2 kids from mini flex 100 with 21 months left on their contracts to SIM only temporarily @ effectively the same monthly charge they would have been moved to, but now with only a 30 day obligation.
Also requested the unlock codes for both devices which should come in the next 24-48 hours to give me flexibility in deciding the next step.

Not sure how old that news is but I switched to them on Monday as iD had those issues.

I was able add a payee to my bank account and my credit union account via sms confirmation text.

So perhaps it was fixed recently. I'll check the 2 factor with my google account now.

Edit: checked google 2 factor and it's not working. It does work with Bank of Ireland texts though

How will the phone be useless? It won't stop working. Just switch to pay as you go or go to another network. You could even sign up for a new contract with another new phone.

Three have broken their contract terms so you can leave without penalty and keep the phone without having to complete the contract.

I am due for an upgrade this Saturday, 4th March. I presume it would be too much to wish for that I could sign up to the upgrade on the current terms (€40.66) and then cancel if and when I get a text about the price increase and then keep the new phone. Thoughts?

thanks op. have just moved from unlimited €55 a month (18 months left) to 30 day sim only bill pay for €30 a month. he said i cant have unlock code till next month.

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't unless they inform you of the increase at checkout

Nope. You would be agreeing to the new terms by signing up now.

Thanks OP☺️ Was stuck in contract with classic flex 350 until August 2018, just called there and cancelled contract no problem at all. Moved to 30 day contract for the moment until I get a chance to suss out competition.

Funny how a thread that's critical about being fleeced by a company appears to turning into a how can we fleece an expensive smartphone from said company thread. :pac:

Just off the phone to 3. Was on 55pm contract for 24 months started last week of January with new s7 edge. Now on 30 pm rolling contract and keep phone. Happy camper ðŸ˜

Well done OP - champion of the people!!!!

There's nothing interesting really, they are processing the cancellations no problem once you are on a plan that's increasing. You'll more then likely need to ring, the cancellations dept is in Ireland where as support is India.

just thought it would be interesting to see if they tried to persuade me to keep the contract

Do you need to change the sim to switch to the rolling 30-day contract or did they simply modify on the system?

They dont. Its a strange call. All I got was thanks and no problems. I had one contract on Classic 350 and one on Mini Flex 100. Moved both to sim only Flex max 350. Saving €15 p/m based on future pricing.
