    They are represented by tiny filaments, knobs and tubes in Canadian rocks dated to be up to 4.28 billion years old.

    An interesting article from the BBC, that is its top story. I'd be a tad skeptical myself given the age of the rocks and the significant changes to rocks over time, hence damaging/altering samples. Still worth the read.
