Feel the same about it , feels a bit too retro for me. Ah well was only a tenner.

Stick with it. It’s a really good game. I must get back into it and do the post game and DLC

Re: Celeste - a game I definitely think should have a demo - I got it free on Epic Games and lasted maybe half an hour before determining that it's a game involving far more precise (irritatingly precise, for me) platforming than I am interested in at this point. Mind you, there's clearly a market for more challenging platformers like it (Super Meat Boy, They Bleed Pixels) so the target audience presumably know if it's for them...

There is kind of a demo for Celeste, in that the original Pico-8 game is available to play for free.

Useful to know, cheers :) It would be much better if there was a demo on the eShop itself (though this is true of many games including most first party titles).

Certainly for me it puts me off a lot of indies if they aren't ports from PC or other consoles - the current eShop has a similar shovelware issue to the Wii shop (which also had an underused demo feature).

Of the three "never heard of 'em, no obvious history on other platforms" games I've picked up without trying a demo, only 1 has any hope of being played again (Super Hero Fight Club: Reloaded - a mobile port, as it turns out), and even at that it remains to be seen if its couch multiplayer mode is any better than its ok-but-not-great single player mode. Its heritage as a mobile game is obvious from the very limited music and SFX library, which became tedious enough for me to switch both off within 20 minutes of starting to play - not exactly promising.

If you want a platforming game with todays graphics that looks good and is enjoyable then Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair is what you want. The only impossible level would be the last level called impossible Lair but there are tonnes of levels and a game world area to explore so you still get your moneys worth. From looking at Celeste the people who liked that game would more than likely find the impossible Lair challenging but beatable.

Will a new Switch bought in Smyths right now be the v2 or is there a chance it will be the older processor?

Every time I've been in over the last while, it's been mostly the new ones behind the desk (the box is mostly red). The staff are knowledgeable enough that you can ask and they'll sort you out.

Vanquish remaster announced for PS4/Xbox. Would absolutely love if it got a Switch release too.

Probably will, Vanquish is apparently going to be bundled with Bayonetta (what a pairing btw) but I imagine it will be separate on switch.
Would not want to play Vanquish in handheld mode mind.

Not sure if this was posted but MyNintendo have this competition running every day. Once signed in just click on today's date on the advent style calendar, scroll down and press enter now. Probably won't win anything but it only takes 10 seconds.

Probably rerelease the main game with the expansion as a dlc code for a very high price

What power banks are people using and where did ye get them?

Need one for an upcoming flight, but obviously Amazon doesn't ship them directly here and I'm not sure if an AddressPal would get here on time. I've no idea where to get a decent one that isn't over 40 euro.

Picked up a switch lite with games this past week enjoying using it so far playing pokemon shield barely missing the rumble feature battery is t too bad neither I used my regular switch solely in handheld mode and the lite really isn't as much of a step down as I thought.

Just noticed the over €40. This is over €40.
    https://www.komplett.ie/anker-powercore-speed-20100-mah/20918155/product
Although a fair bit cheaper at the minute on amazon with PM/PW/AP/PC

Currys, Harvey Norman, DID, Power City all sell power banks, but they aren't ones that would be highly recommended that I've seen. That's not to say they're not any good.

    Edited
Argos have some too - https://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10152&catalogId=15051&langId=111&searchTerms=power+bank&authToken=-1002%252CTb6zd56kFOpztp1WPmC9rktuDxQ%253D
    Memoryc.com might have some too.
Mymemory.ie is very slow postage so no point in getting those.

I bought one in CEX - It was a Mophie Powerstation XXL, I believe, for around 25. Have it close to a year now, and has done the job beautifully, with around 6 long haul trips in that year charging phone, iPad, and Switch.

Have a One for All voucher to spend this month and decided I’ll go with a new Switch game to play over Christmas. Trying to decide between these few if anyone has an helpful advice to help me make the decision.

    Luigis Mansion

    Mario and Sonic Olympic Games
    Super Mario Maker

To the best of my knowledge, Smyths don't take One4All vouchers so it's Argos or Gamestop for any purchases.

In terms of replayability Super Mario Maker is immense. Endless content.

And ironically you don't even have to enjoy making to enjoy the game.

In saying that Luigi's mansion 3 will be my next purchase so that could be good too

Any ideas? Tried everything I've seen online to no avail.

    Odd one.

I hate to point out the obvious, but are you sure it's not just a dead battery? Could be it's not charging because the connection is a little dirty or something? Try gently cleaning the JoyCon and matching rail on the Switch; cotton buds, or a soft bristle toothbrush would work well.

I can't think of anything else other than that.

Is it possible to game share digital libraries on the switch?

My brother might be buying one for himself so it would b cool to be able to share games like you can on xbox/playstation.

Ok so I finally did it. Got me a Switch.

I skipped out on the Wii U cause it didn't seem like enough of a change but I have been eyeing up Breath of the Wild for so long now.

Anyway... I got it with MK 8 which is great. Picked up Bayonetta 2 and Astral chain off adverts for 50 for the both. I'm going to pick Zelda up tomorrow.

What else do we recommend? Also is that pro controller worth it? I have a feeling I'd prefer playing Zelda with a controller than the joycons/handheld mode.

Cheapest I can see Zelda is 55 and the controller 60.

Are there any other recommendations people have? Probably need to get a screen protector too I guess.

The 8bitdo sn30 pro is a good alternative to the pro controller. Im a fan of the pro controller but the d pad isn't amazing. Battery life is fantastic though and it feels great.
There's an estore sale coming up soon so you're bound to get some good deals on games. I would recommend Steam World Dig 2 and Inside for indy games. Botw wil keep you occupied for a long time so that and Mario kart is a good combo. That's how I started my Switch journey.

Looked that up. Cheers but I don't like the analog stick in that position. It's what I hate about the PS. Been an xbox/Nintendo man for years.

Zelda on a big telly is great and the Joy-Cons in the grip was grand for me. I'm eyeing up a Nintendo branded wired controller for sit-down play in the future, a lot cheaper than a pro controller.

Zelda will do you until Christmas or after, so much to see and do.

If I'm on the hunt for a game I tend to look at all games getting between 80 and 100 on Metacritic and look from there. Steamworld Dig 2/Heist, Super Mario Odyssey, Into the Breach, Okami etc.

Totally agree about the analogue sticks. But it's a good cheap alternative. I also agree that the joy cons in the holder is actually very comfortable to use too.

I have about 5 gamecube pads knocking about but you cant do the analog stick clicks etc.

Next up, Smash Bros, Mario Odyssey and possible Fire Emblem. :D

About 5-5.5 hours playing Zelda. Pretty impressive really, my DualShock 4 used to last about 6 hours between charges so for a console actually running and playing a game it's fantastic.

Just got my daughter a switch for Christmas, will I need to get an additional memory card?

Also when setting up the account online. She is 6 so do I set her up by herself and obviously oversee it or do I set it up as a family and she has a profile?

A decent size memory card is very cheap now. No reason to get one immediately. They may be even cheaper in January.

In light of the ongoing Qubic Games chart-hack/freebie giveaway, I thought it might be interesting to discuss their games and what people have thought of them.

I own Brawl and Super Hero Fight Club already - I found Brawl a real disappointment as I had hoped it would be a Bomberman clone with better graphics but it muddles itself with unnecessarily fiddly additional gimmicks, and I got bored of it within half an hour or so. Super Hero Fight Club is a bit better - it feels like the mobile port it is (particularly the limited music and sound effects bank), but the gameplay isn't bad and it can be addictive in a "one more go" sort of way. I haven't played multiplayer yet but my experience with Stick Fight: The Game multiplayer suggests that this could be where SHFC shines.

Onto the freebies - I got a free download of Colouring Book to start the chain, but have no interest in even looking at it. I've previously played the Robonauts demo and thought it was alright - not worth paying much for, but decent enough and worth nabbing for free. Geki Yaba Runner is another mobile port and, well, if they as publishers can't be arsed providing a video on the store page, I'm not arsed keeping it installed. Puzzle Book is another nope from me, because it looks like a minimal-effort affair (maximum of 60 pieces per puzzle? Pfft). One Strike is a retro-looking one-hit fighting game - I tried it and got bored within 10 minutes, because it felt a bit shallow and like a simplistic knock-off of more polished games like DiveKick or Lethal League.

Today's offering, Wreckin' Ball Adventure, is the first one I was legitimately interested in based on the eShop listing. Koloro and #RaceDieRun both look promising as well, and Rekt might be fun too (though I suspect it'll compare poorly to Super Mario Kart 8 Dx and Rocket League, both of which I own...). I'm utterly uninterested in Mana Spark and whatever the Mystery Game is, because nothing in their catalogue jumps out at me as definitely being a step up from what I've seen so far.

Anyone else want to share their thoughts on these games?
