Best night of thunder and lightning in Galway for a long time

Looking east towards Galway city. No rain here. It's calm out over Aran. Main action to my left in over the city lots of lightning and thunder to hear.
No rain here in south west conamara

Very loud and frequent thunder claps for the last 20 mins.....so loud that soot came down the chimney! We had some heavy rain but it has eased off. Thunder still rumbling over South Galway as I write.

The heavens have suddenly opened here and the lightning intensity has increased. All beautiful pink flashes. Thunder getting louder now.

Storm must be developing to my north as can see frequent lightning from that area here now. Would say roughly around Claremorris area.

Savage thunder and lightning in Galway city tonight!! Saw a fork literally 100m from the house, the bang was absolutely immense!

Haven't seen anything like this in years.

Just seen one flash, plenty of rumbling here in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo. It's outrageously warm at the minute though, I'd say we are in for a fantastic lightshow

Loud blast of thunder here! Could most definitely be the start of that system

Non event for Dublin it looks

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Plenty of strikes around the Thurles>Urlingford>Templemore area but none of them showing on http://en.blitzortung.org/live_lightning_maps.php?map=12

Which is weird because there is a detector in Thurles on that network.
