Hey. Just a query re. timing belt change. The car is 131 Astra Saloon, 1.6 diesel. The recommendation is to change it at 120k km. I've got a price of €480. Non Dealer mechanic, SIMI registered outside Dublin. I intend to ring a few other places as well. Question is Does it have to be done bang on 120k. Or could you go 1 or…

Hey. Just a query re. timing belt change. The car is 131 Astra Saloon, 1.6 diesel. The recommendation is to change it at 120k km. I've got a price of €480. Non Dealer mechanic, SIMI registered outside Dublin. I intend to ring a few other places as well.

Question is Does it have to be done bang on 120k. Or could you go 1 or 2 k km over the 120. Just a matter of timing really but I don't want to take a risk on it going wallop.

I'm almost certain that the 1.6cdti does not have a timing belt. (Chain on the gearbox side I believe.)
If it is the 1.7cdti you have then price around.

Isn't the Astra saloon the old model?
