Connecting new laptop to old laptop

Hi,

Is it possible to connect two laptops together where one will act as a second monitor?

A friends laptop broke. It turns on but the screen stays black (virus of some sort).

They have purchased a new laptop and have files on the broken laptop they would like to retrieve.

Is it possible to connect them in some way?

You could take out the hard drive and place it into a caddy.. run virus software on it then access the files..

Take out the hard drive out of the old one. (look it up on YouTube)
Put it in a hard drive caddy. (You`ll get one for about E10 on PC World or ebay/Amazon)

Cheers! When the drive is in the caddy would they have to replace the hard drive in their new laptop with it to do the transfer?
