    Hi all

Was driving back to Dublin last week when my car started giving out errors. There was a small engine noise when it happened.
I had cruise control on (ACC) and it disabled itself. The car didn't stop but ACC and stop-start are now not working.Brought it to VW dealer but have to wait 2 weeks to do a diagnostic. Is 130€ normal price for car diagnostic?
Does anybody know a Dublin garage that can do a car Diagnostic cheaper?

    Any help appreciated

The cruise control and stop start being disabled are just symptoms of whatever the problem is. They're not faults in themselves.

Could be something as simple as the battery not being up to scratch.

Not sure if an independent garage could diagnose, but €130 seems very pricey for that.

Maybe go to a fast fit type place and get them to do a test on the battery.

Stop/ start will stop working if there are any other engine/ electrical faults at all so it's likely you just have a fault for the radar, is active cruise still not working now?

Any half decent garage should be able to diagnose this issue. €130 for a diagnostic scan is a joke tbh.

    Is it under warranty still?

Should get the €130 back if it's diagnosed as a warranty issue.

You'd be the first to understand though that a proper diagnostic is much more than just a scan.

What if they just plug it in and they know straight away what it is because they're looking at them every day of the week?

    Still €130.

Had to do that with the coil pack on the FIL's 3 series, even though we all knew what the issue was. All covered under warranty and got the cash refunded - it's just the first stage in the official process.l

It runs a little deeper than that. If you get the subsequent repair work carried out with the diagnosing workshop VW offer "first 15 minutes free" on all diagnostic work, so if it's painfully obvious you get off Scott free in terms of diagnostic fees and in any other diagnostic circumstance once the repair is carried out at the same workshop the diagnosis was made, the diagnostic fee is capped at 30 minutes labour.

It's only ever a full hours labour (which it sounds like here) if they diagnose the car and the owner says they don't want to repair with that workshop. In which case they have spent and hour and have no further prospect so they want payment for an hour. These scenarios don't happen very often.
