Hi all. I got an email from HRM today saying my vetting is complete.
Does this mean all checks are done and all is well or does it just mean all checks are done but not saying wether you have succeeded or not.

I'd be pretty happy that you're all clear. Did you email and ask them?

She has a good chance. My experience with some of these things is that burocracy can play a part in delays. For example the medical department cleared me fit but it took several weeks for them to alert the appointments department that I had been passed fit.

That must be so frustrating, but good it's done now

Yep it did, my daughters fitness test on 24th June, if she passes do you reckon she has a chance for august, vetting cleared and OOM of less than 100
Id echoe mr black on that alright. Good oom, all clear. Just drill through that fitness and don't stop under any circumstances. Certainly August not a bad chance at all

I really hope so, since she was 4 and if someone asked her what she wants to be when she grows up she would say " a police lady on a horse" :)

she's up to speed now on beep test thanks to you :)

That's the kind of person that belongs in the job no doubt. Tell her to remember to rest well the days leading up to the test. Curtail training in the last week and have plenty sleep the night before and good solid brekfast. Glad the info was of use. If she can improve even more then do, but do not risk injury.

Certainly hope to hear good news soon.

Could you repost the advice for getting upto speed on the beep test..I keep getting a complete mental block on it and waiting on a retest date. I'd try anything at this stage. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I had my medical on the 25th of April, I got deferred as I failed the audiology test. I went to the specialist and its more serious than I thought. I would need surgery to correct it. Even after surgery I may still fail as she said it would not be 100%.

I would be due for re-test in around 9 weeks. Does anyone know if I Can get this put back further to get the surgery done?

Don't panic yet. I would imagine that audiology deferrals would allow the same timeframe as a visual deferral which is 6 months. If you choose to have the procedure notify HRM of your intention to get the operation and the timeframe involved and once its within the 6 month window I can't see there being a problem. I know it's disappointing and its an added hassle, as I'm aware of after having laser myself but I wouldn't let it put you off if joining AGS is what you want to do. If it works out and its successful great and if not at least you have made every effort.

Firstly everyone I'm deeply sorry for hogging near an entire page. I'll not re post it again, for anyone looking for it, it can be found here, This page houses all my crap in one spot. Sorry again.:o

One approach would be a form of interval running. 1k warm up and do good stretches. Now you do the fun stuff. Sprint as fast as you can (max it out) for 30 seconds, and jog light for 30 seconds. Do this a total of 10 times. I guarantee you'll feel it. Then 1k warm down and stretch out.

You can also do the warm up and then run flat out for 6 minutes. Maintain the absolute fastest pace you can. With both of these methods your on a winner if you have a sat watch like a garmin or something. If not try use an outdoor place where you can measure the distance or have some idea what sort of distance your covering. This is so you can gauge your improvement.

For either approach all recovery is active. The only time you stop completely is when your done. Rest adequately between days of doing this. If you have other training such as circuit, endurance or strength then do them on the alternate days. Train your explosive cardio every second day, and make sure you've one day in 7 where you do no training of any kind.

A mixed sprint, hill sprint, circuit is no harm bad thing as it pushes your endurance. Take as an example Phoenix park, Magazine Hill. Arrive, 1 circuit, press ups, burpees, squats (70% of your max number in a single set). Light jog between each exercise maybe 20 metres, then sprint magazine hill max effort. Use any looping track that brings you back to magazine as a route (example is the bike track that runs the edge of the playing fields. Interval your way around that loop, and come back to the bottom of magazine hill. Repeat the entire thing 2 or 3 times.

Lastly all this is something most anyone can do because it is based on your maximum ability not someone else's. Push yourself to whatever your max is and try push beyond it. The first two items I mentioned have certainly affected my endurance and explosive strength. Oh and if you try it and find its not working for you, give it a chance but look for and try another method that does work for you.

most important, do not stop or slack off, pace yourself in early stages so not to run yourself ragged on the bleep test but until your told to stop you keep moving, be bloody minded. There is always one more thing you can do

Sorry if that rambled a bit and hope its of some use.

    OTHER POST:

Two things to try. First is the obvious focus on the chest. She should alternate days and by that I mean work hard on her chest strength 1 day, ignore it the next and back to it again the day after. Recovery is important. On the days she is working at it a bloody minded approach to press ups is always good. Any spare time during the day get down and do a set, as many as she can do. If she falls on her face (try to avoid this), get back up and keep going to try push out a few more. UNDER NO Circumstance do any training the day before the PCT at an absolute minimum.

The second thing is the less obvious. Push ups depend not soley on the chest but on a number of other muscles. If your daughter improves her core strength that will help as well. On her "On" days she should consider a circuit training style approach. Push ups, squats, and most importantly burpees (These are horrible but very useful training tool). A good way is to incorporate a running route of maybe 2-4k multi terrain. This has the effect of making all recovery active. Intermittent in that run do 4 circuits of the 3 exercises. Aim in each circuit to do 70% - 80% of her max number of each exercise.

At the end of the whole thing she should aim to complete say 50 press ups in as few seperate sets as possible (take however long and as many sets as is needed to get it done right though). However the last important rule is DO NOT work to failure. She should always aim to get up and rest a moment before she falls on her face. She wants to teach her body and herself that she doesn't fail. So always aim to get up before snotting on the ground. And if she is doing a day where she is doing numerous sets of press ups throughout the day, be sure to give a minimum of 2 minutes rest between sets. Strength training depends on adequate recovery as well as not training to failure.

    Hey everyone,

Medical passed on Wednesday so fully focused on the physical. Just wondering are they particular about the sit ups like arms must be behind the head or across the chest or that kind of thing.

Also with the push ups seeing as there's no time limit do you have to remain in the 'push up position' until you've reached your number and are knees on the ground permitted at all?

    Thanks in advance.

For sit ups, you must be touching your temples at all times and elbows have to go pass the knees.

For push ups, yes you can rest, when you push up and stay in pushed up position. Knees are allowed to be on the ground but only for females.

You can go to the opening day and they will show you everything and let you try it, to see if you are doing them right.

Sorry to hear that. Was your vetting complete and file clear and then they told you that you were unsuitable or was your vetting outstanding and then they told you you were unsuitable.
I rang hr and they said my file was finished. Does this mean I am ready for an offer or can they come back and say I'm generally unsuitable ?

    After they passed there interview?
After they met with their local super?
Or after they completed their medical and physical?

general time limit is four months for vetting. but if you list any address outside ireland, it will take longer cause they rely on hearing from police authorities from those countries.
